My latest obsession: FREE PEOPLE RUFFLED MILITARY JACKET!!!

I need this jacket! This will never, ever, ever, go out of style! For me anyway;-)

HIGH SHINE!!!

Shiny things seem to always make me happy. And these shiny things are actually practical!! Become a fan of Laura's Style on Facebook to view my 'Happy Shiny Things' album.

UGGS are no longer UGLY!

I just got a pair of the classic Tall UGG boots that I swear by for our cold and snowy Maine winters. I have had a pair of these for about 3 years now and they are the only thing that gets me through! It was time for a new pair since the ones I got three years ago are (or should I say were) light blue to match with the light blue UGG bag that I got when they first were getting popular. (I don't recommend getting a pair of UGGS in light blue:-( So I just got a pair of Classic Talls in brown. Much better. However I think I need to send them back since I forgot that they run big and they are not available in half sizes. So, just say you wear an 8 1/2 then you will want to order an 8, not a 9. OK, but here is my debate. My friend Cindy just bought a pair of the Bailey Button UGGS and they are so cute!!!! She got them right at Lamey Wellehan (which is right across from Starbucks by the mall:-) They certainly wouldn't get me through the worst of our Maine winter storms, but they woul...

My of the moment obsession: Marc Jacobs Fuchsia 'Love Story' Clutch!!!

Isn't this just the sweetest thing you have ever seen!!!

Laura's Lovely Look of the Day!!! MAGASCHONI COLLECTION

I am loving this look! As always I adore the tights and skirt look. It is so feminine and wearing a skirt is just as easy as wearing pants and it is just as warm with the tights. The silk blouse is just so beautiful with that rosette detail. I am also loving the length of the cardigan. It is silk and cashmere and is probably feels fantastic! The ruffled edge of the cardigan makes me have to have it!!!

Work with what you've got!

Updating your wardrobe doesn't mean buying a whole new one. Accessories are KEY to making your old stand bys new again. Here are a few ideas on how to make your old pieces new again. You just have to work with what you've got! 1.) Try wearing a scarf in a new print or popular color of the season. You will see the scarf alone will do wonders for just a plain turtleneck, crew neck, v-neck, or ballet neck. 2.) A new jewel will perk you up! I just got a new silver flower necklace from Charlotte Russe. This will surely do the trick. I can put it on with anything to add some interest! 3.) Try a belt or a handbag in an animal print. This works really well to make your outfit more up to date especially if you wear black a lot. My friend Maria W. wears this look a lot and she wears it well. I call it her signature;-) 4.) A poncho style sweater always looks so modern and soooo chic. You can wear it loose or belt it. You can just be wearing a t shirt and jeans underneath and you will look...

You don't have to go to a resort to wear RESORT

Resort collections usually debut in stores around mid November and there couldn't be a better time!! This is about the time of year that us fashionistas get a little restless. We are just a little tired of the trends of the season and we are ready for something to spark us up again! We want to see something new, something fresh! This is where resort collections come in to fill that emptiness we are feeling. Soon we will be seeing all of those hot fall trends on the sale rack and they for some reason, don't look as pretty anymore. (Unless you know how to piece them to make them fresh and new again!) To me resort wear no longer is completely for all those lucky ladies who go on cruises and trips to tropical climates at this time of year. Resort to me is all about the classics coming true again. As much as I love a good trend, to me the classics are where it's at. And with a trend kind of thrown into the mix every now and then, you will keep the classics looking new. As you vi...

Doesn't everyone agree that Debbie Harry has fabulous style?!?!

I am loving Charlotte Russe Graphic Tees

These tees are just so fun to wear!!!!

Sophronia Design Fall 2009 Runway Show. You should have been there!!

Now....lets take a minute to sound it out. It is pronounced So-frone-ia. Say it all together now. Say it three times fast. You got it!!!! Mallory Sophronia Bruns is the creative director of Sophronia Design and you better learn to pronounce it because she isn't about to change it!!! I happen to love the name. Aren't all designers supposed to have a name that is difficult to pronounce so that us fashionistas can correct all the non fashionistas?? I love that, because I love knowing something that you might not;-) Ok so the name is cool, the designs..............FABULOUS!!! She is so creative with her drawings and I love it that she uses all recycled fabrics. I didn't get to ask her about her artwork, but it is really adorable and one of a kind. Her designs kind of remind me of Holly Hobby but all grown up. I thought the models looked so great. The hair was pulled back away from the face into a simply elegant pony tail. The make up was a beautiful grey smokey eye which happen...

That's WHITE!!!

I have always LOVED the look of wearing all white. It just looks so clean and very chic. I will never forget the time I was wearing all white linen. A white oversized linen blouse belted out over a pair of white wide leg linen pants. I loved the outfit! My son was 3 1/2 at the time and I was bringing him to my sisters for the day while I went to work. I had to lift him up into the car seat, but first I told him, "Now look, mumma is wearing all white so be VERY careful to not get your feet on me when I lift you up to your seat!" He being the little angle that he is observed my outfit and agreed to be very careful. When we got to my sisters house he got out of the seat and out of the car he said, "Mumma STOP! You have something on you! Don't move!" I didn't want to look. I just said, "WHERE!!" He came over to me a picked off this tiny little black thread and said "There mumma now you look pretty." Well of course that was summer so I don...

Blair Waldorf/Nellie Oleson. Are you good enough to be their friends???

Have you ever watched an entire an episode of Gossip Girl?? The show is kind of racy, kind of crazy and is actually mostly a world of make believe for most of us. If you can get past all of these little rich brats who whine all the time and watch it for the great fashions you would be impressed! I love how each character has his or her own individual style. Blair Waldorf happens to be my favorite character. Her style is the perfect mix of girly and sexy. She has made wearing the satin ribbon in your hair famous again!!!! (Nellie Oleson from Little House on the Prairie was the original ribbon girl:-) Now that I am thinking of it, I wonder if they based the character Blair Waldorf on Nellie Oleson. I see many similar characteristics there!!! Watch it tonight on The CW channel at 9:00pm to see what I mean;-) Log on to my Laura's Style Facebook fan page to view my Beautiful Blair Waldorf Album:-)

Be bold. Wear Plaid.

We know that plaid originated in Ireland. And thank goodness it came to America!!! I don't know a lot about the history of this pattern, but I do know that I love to wear it and right now is the perfect time! Plaid can be a little bit bold so if you don't like to stand out, wearing it can be a little bit intimidating. Instead you could opt for a plaid handbag, scarf, gloves, or hat (like this one by Juicy Couture.) If you are feeling like that is not enough and you really like to stand out a little more, then go for plaid pants or a plaid coat (like this one by L.A.M.B -that's Gwen Stefani's clothing line:-) The key is to go for one plaid piece at a time. So go for it and be bold. Wear plaid!!! And check out my plaid album on my Laura's Style Facebook fanpage:-)

Wish Upon a Starr!

I am just adoring Hayley Starr. She is a young designer who had an idea and just went for it! 1st and foremost she is all about multifunctionality. She has designed a line of dresses that can be made to look like a different dress every time you wear it. She was so tired of seeing women who wanted a dress for an occasion but they would only wear the dress once and then never again! It would just hang in their closet or they would get rid of it. A lot of money has been spent on items like this!!! I think you can all agree that you have done this before. Well now you can log on to HayleyStarr.com and see everything she offers! She is known for her dresses (maternity dresses too:-) and she also has some really cute unique tees which make fabulous gifts! You really need to watch some of the tutorials on her website that show how the dresses work. She shows one dress being made into 10 different styles!!!! They are also great for bridesmaid dresses. They come in a variety of great colors to...

Less than perfect feet? Tintalize!!!

Ok, so now that there is Tintalize I can hardly wait for next summer to bare my feet! Tintalize is basically make up for feet. Ladies, we both know that those heels that we wear can be painful. They can leave us with corns, scaring, blemishes, you name it. Before we know it summer arrives and with that comes sandal weather and we get shy to bare our feet because they are all beat up!! Thank goodness for make up artist Allyson Carey and investment banker Sidney Dillard for having this brilliant idea of make up for your feet! Tintalize is waterproof, sweat proof, rub proof, and long lasting. It will stay on all day until you take it off. I find Tintalize to be one of the world greatest wonders!!!

A Magnificent Must Have!!!

And now introducing the Stepahnie bag by Diane von Furstenberg! WOW what a cool handbag this is!!!!! I love the slouchyness of the bag, but the silvertone leather is what really caught my eye. It almost looks like it is made of chains linked together. This bag really captures that cool 80's vibe trend that is HOT right now. Brilliant!!!!!

Stop Staring! Pleeaassseee!

Today I have discovered something that I truly did not think existed. Dresses that flatter any figure! Yes that's right, ANY figure! Alicia Estrada is the founder and head designer of Stop Staring. A collection of vintage inspired dresses that are so classy and sexy without being trashy. They seem to be very 40's inspired which is the year in fashion that I am most obsessed with. Alicia is a firm believer in celebrating the female form no matter what your size. I love the way she thinks:-)

Charming

I just received my new Anthropologie catalog in the mail today. I am not sure who the buyer for is for Anthropologie, but I need to find out! I always love everything I see in this catalog. They carry many different name brands, but all of them are very unique and make you feel like you are part of another word. It's almost like a world of make believe, or this world but in a different era, or a dream. I just love it because for that 10-15 min that I am flipping through, I feel like I have escaped. Just imagine what it feels like to go into an Anthropologie store! Here are just a few of my favorite things from the new Anthropologie October 2009 catalog. The Ivanka Trump Collection.....ohhh to own a piece!!!!

Ivanka Trump's jewelry collection gives me the feeling that a sky diver must feel when jumping out of that airplane and falling through mid air. Just imagine if I actually saw a piece of her collection in person instead of just online or in a magazine!!! Or better yet, if I actually ever owned a piece!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, I need to calm down and focus. I more than likely will never ever own a jewel from Ivanka's collection. But I can dream, and so can you. I love what Ivanka said when asked, why jewelry?? Why not a clothing line??? She said that clothing has less of an immediate appeal to her. She said that jewelry is more than just an accessory. In fact, to her, a dress is an accessory to her jewelry! After viewing her jewelry collection on her website Ivankatrumpcollection.com, I see what she means! Visit her website or my Laura's Style fan page on Facebook to view pieces from her very valuable collection.

What a stud!!!

I am really loving fall's studs!!! No I am not talking about the dudes you might run into at the gym. I am talking about something way more important than that. Studded handbags! I am so ready for them! I think we are all kind of tired of our good old classic handbags. Yes they are always in style and should never be given away, and yes they go with everything, but we are ready for a change. Studded handbags give off that cool, modern, girl with an edge, kind of attitude. Feminine and strong at the same time. That's what I love about them;-)
