Happy Halloween!! xo

The Coolest Halloween Costumes EVER!

{The Brownie} I am in love with these Halloween costumes that I came across while surfing the net. These fashionistas have some cool ideas that may be just the inspiration you need for this October 31st. You may be able to find some really cool pieces that make your costume come to life at your local resale and vintage shops. I have also found sites such as Etsy to have some unique and interesting things. Most importantly, just let your imagination go wild and have fun! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! {Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I must find this mask!}  {Mary Poppins} {Alice in Wonderland} {Ballerina Girl}

I Am Crying TIERS OF JOY!

I mean really..... who wouldn't be crying tears(tiers) of joy when witnessing this totally incredible long ruffle skirt from Talbots ! Skirts with tiers have always been a favorite of mine, and when I saw this gorgeous skirt (above) pictured on the cover of the latest Talbots catalog, I swear I almost passed out! For a second there I thought I was looking at a Saks Fifth Avenue catalog and it would be an item I could only dream about. Not so! It's Talbots, and at $199 and not $1,999, it just might be within my budget! Ok, so after I calmed down a bit I wondered how practical this item would be for me to have hanging in my closet? For a split second there I was a fool and thought that it wasn't something I needed. After that stupid thought left me, I knew it was a classic item that I would enjoy for years to come! This is a new era for us fashionistas. It is no longer a fashion don't to show up in a memorable piece more than once in your lifetime. That is somethin...
How I Choose My Shoes There are so many beautiful shoes to choose from out there! And we know that our shoe choice really brings our overall look to life. If you are like me and you love the top designer creations, but can't afford them at $600 a pop or more, then you will appreciate this blog entry. Here I will show you a few comparison photos of shoes by top designers and some of those not so top designers. Remember, it is all in how you wear them. Wear them cheap and they will look cheap. Wear them expensive and they will look like the real deal. Trust me, unless you are working for Vogue or live in NYC people seldom ask what designer you are wearing. Here in Maine, no one will ask you. Which is really kind of sad when you actually are wearing designer:(  {On the left is a style by Easy Spirit. On the right we have Salvatore Ferragamo. Notice the similar buckle detail. Both are a very classic style. No one will know that you didn't spend $490. Trust me. And how dare they ask...

Not so fast! Don't put away those white jeans yet! (or never!)

How many of you even thought twice about packing those white jeans away?? Yes, I am talking white, not cream, not oatmeal, not winter white. I mean WHITE ............ That's what I thought! Most of you have put them away and have made the decision to not take them back out until spring 2011, right? Well, get them back out already! White jeans, cords, and/or any other winter weight pant is okay to wear even when the weather cools off. I am loving white jeans with grey right now. Here are a few photos to give you some ideas: This is what I wore today: Grey swing sweater from Gap Grey and black leopard print velour scarf from Talbots Jewelry by Silpada White jeans from Talbots

Skinny is not just for jeans!

The slim leg jean, better known as the skinny jean, has really become the new fashion choice for those ladies who are bored of the basic boot leg styles we have been sporting comfortably for years now. This modern slim style now comes in many fabrics besides denim. My latest obsession would be the skinny leg cord. Such a modern take on a nice warm practical pant. Practical and fashion usually don't go in the same sentence, but the times they are a changing! The new skinny styles of jeans, cords and other fabrics are so comfy you can even do your yoga in them! There are so many combinations that you can try in order to make the skinny pant work for you. I say that to achieve the most balanced look you will want to create more volume up top by wearing a long boyfriend style jacket/cardigan or just something with more detail on top weather it be gathers, ruffles, tiers, etc. You get the idea. Here are a few looks that I created on Polyvore to give you some ideas along with some pics...

Rain Rain, You Can Stay! (Really.....I don't mind:)

{hat by Helen Kaminski and is available at Saks Fifth Avenue } Lets face it. Fashionistas like us do not like rainy days, unless........you have a super cute rain hat! I have to admit that I am a bit obsessed with always looking put together, so when mother nature throws me a curve ball I know I need to have another strategy. And these rain hats are so cute that mother nature probably doesn't even know what to do! The key to making the rain hat work for you, is to wear your hair straight maybe putting a little curl in the ends of your hair or pull it back in a sexy low pony tail. Don't worry about messing up your hair a little. You never want to look like you tried too hard with your hair anyway, even on the most beautiful sunny day. Just carry a wide tooth comb to fix things after you get indoors and take the hat off. The key to wearing a hat well is to not worry about the hair underneath it too much. I guarantee that it will look better than the hair on the lady that didn...

Blackwatch Plaid

You can thank the Scottish for bringing us this fabulous pattern called black watch plaid. To me there is hardly a more classic print than this, yet I am not seeing a lot of it in the fashion world this year. Can you say unfortunate?!! This is something I will be on the hunt for until I come across the perfect garment in this print. I will check thrift stores weekly and run periodic Google searches until my quest is complete. And you will be the first to know when I find it! I would love to know if you have anything in your wardrobe in this fabulous print! The fabulous black watch plaid pants pictured above are something I came across on the Internet and are no longer available. I am not even sure where they came from. But don't worry, there will be others. Below are some awesome black watch plaid pieces that are available RIGHT NOW on the Internet! Your closet will thank you for including at least one of them :) {Talbots}  {left to right: umbrella available at Barney's...

BFF!

You might be having a flashback right now if you grew up in the 80's. Friendship bracelets were all the rage and the more you had going up your arm the cooler you were because it meant that you had a ton of friends! They were so fun to make. And sometimes it turned out so pretty you kept it for yourself! I had a total flashback while enjoying my latest November 2010 edition of Marie Claire when I came across some super cool friendship bracelets embellished with vintage beads and rhinestones. It seems that two real life best friends Stacy Herzog and Sarah Reid came up with this fabulous modern idea using vintage materials and a retro concept. Each piece is handmade and one of a kind. Check out their fabulous website here  Frieda and Nellie . It was named after their glamorous grannies. I also have to mention that these bracelets will be perfect with the boho look which is a hot trend for spring 2011! {P.S. They also make some awesome necklaces.} {P.S.S. Frieda and Nellie have a...
