Never Underestimate The Power of a Great Dress!

A great dress may be difficult to come by. It's kind of like a total eclipse. So, in other words, when it does happen, take notice!!!  I happened to notice this total eclipse of a dress in a Saks Fifth Avenue catalog about 6 years ago. I did not purchase it at that time. It was a tad bit out of my price range, so I decided to let it go. But, I couldn't forget about it. From time to time I would search stores and websites hoping to find something like it. I pretty much gave up and moved on. Then one day 4 years later this perfect dress popped into my head again! So I decided to search E Bay. I typed in Burberry double breasted dress size 4. A few different styles popped up, and then.....all of a sudden.....time stood still! There it was! The same double breasted Burberry dress that I had longed for in years past! The seller said it had been worn a few times but it just was not fitting her well anymore. So, it was handed to the next fashionista :) And the next fashionista ...

Learning to Walk In Heels

Walking effortlessly in heels is an art form and it doesn't come naturally. Yes, some of us are born with more grace than others which does help when strutting your stuff, but it also takes a great deal of strength. You might be able to put on a pair of heels and walk just fine, but do you look good in motion, or do you look like you are struggling to be womanly??? Think about this before you start walking in heels, and then practice and strengthen yourself by doing some r elevé and p lié  exercises as well as some inner core exercises. In fact taking ballet classes can do wonders for your strength and poise. I took ballet classes growing up and I swear that is why I can actually run better in heels than I can in my Reeboks.  Can you say OUCH?! In order to prevent this from happening you need to practice.  You will want to practice this  procedure  that I tell you without heels at first. Stand up nice and tall and look at yourself standing side to in ...

Here's To The MAXI! (skirt.....or dress)

I have been on the hunt for the perfect Maxi dress these days but I haven't had any luck! I am not really sure what I am looking for. It's one of those deals where I will know when I see it. I have a feeling I may find the perfect one on my trip to the Old Port in Portland Maine. They have some very unique boutiques there. In the meantime, I continue to reach for this black maxi skirt that I actually found at my local Goodwill store last winter. I looked to my June edition of Harper's Bazaar magazine for some inspiration on how to wear this maxi look. I love how they layered the look. Layering actually works well for fashionistas in the northeast. Especially lately, since the temps have been all over the place but, mostly very cool. Everyone is wondering if we are even going to get a summer! Summer doesn't actually officially begin until June 21st. I am giving mother nature until then. After that I will start complaining.  What I wore: Johnathan Martin jac...

What Am I?

If you are in your 30's you might remember your grandma using me. If you are in your 40's you might remember your mom using me. If you are in your 50's or more, then maybe you used me! HINT, You use me in your hair. What am I? See below if you are stummped. I ran across these pink plastic curlers at the Family Dollar store and wondered if they really worked. So I experimented on slightly damp hair with a little mousse mixed in to hold the curl better. I let my hair air dry. I waited and waited......... .......and then I used the hairdryer to make sure my hair was completely dry before removing the beautiful curlers.   The result: a nice bouncy loose curl :) You should give them a try! They create a different kind of curl......but you need time. Unfortunately time is not always on our side.....

Making Sense of it All

Some days my closet makes more sense than other days. On those days when my brain feels focused and alert I take a minute to write little post it notes and stick 'em to the pieces that usually make no sense especially on a Monday morning.....does that make sense?

Wear A Scarf In Your Hair For A Chic Summer Look!

Ever since I saw Water For Elephants at the theater you might say that I have been obsessed with wearing scarves in my hair. Below is my interpretation of Reese's look as her character Marlena.   What I wore : "angel wing" tee: Gap cropped skinny jeans: Talbots scarf: Talbots wedges: Clarks  Here is another way I wore a scarf in my hair. My husband thought it looked great. "Kind of like a gypsy look," he said. I know he was trying to be all fashion-y when he said that, but I was really going for more of a chic French lady/Bridget Bardot kind of look.  MEN. They just don't get it. But at least he was trying....... ;)  I just swept my hair into a low side ponytail and tied the scarf around my head and then went around the ponytail a couple of times and then tied the ends underneath and let it hang down over my shoulder.

Orange You Glad To See Me

Oh wow I LOVE this polish! I am really into wearing brights with neutrals this season. This OPI polish called "Nicole Alert" lets me wear shades of brown, tan, beige, cream and white without feeling totally drab. Another neutral this orangey color looks cool with is olive green. Plus it looks great with my faux tan I am now sporting ;) {ring =  Silpada }

One fabulous reason to look forward to SEPTEMBER!

Okay, so this may not look like your local Target department store. That's because it's not. It is actually a Missoni concept store. However, I am hearing that designer Angela Missoni has come up with an affordable Missoni line for Target that will debut in select stores and online in September! Now that is one reason to look forward to Fall!  Not familiar with the Missoni brand? Let me fill you in. Missoni is know for the gorgeous and colorful zig zag patterns that you see in the photos above.  Below you will see a photo of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni the founders of the Missoni fashion label. {In 1958 the Missoni's show their first fashion collection in Milan.
