Sequins During The Day?? What The Hay!!!

Raise your hand if you think sequins are only for night. If you were one of those who actually raised your hand, then you must take that hand and slap yourself already!! Yes sequins sparkle and shine under pretty lights at night but, how often do you actually go out?? If you are like me, it's not very often. I am a huge believer in NOT saving clothes for "something special." Every day is special and should be treated that way! So don't be afraid to shine during the day. Have fun and SHINE ON! What I wore: ~ teal velveteen jacket from Casual Corner ~ black cami (under jacket) from Gap ~ black and gray animal print velvet/silk scarf from Talbots ~ black sequin skirt from Talbots ~ gray tights from Talbots (I chose gray over black for just a bit more contrast) ~ black leather bow pumps by 9.2.5 I love these chandelier earrings from Talbots!   What I wore: ~ tuxedo jacket from New York & Company ( I actually purchased this ...

Great Style Doesn't Come From What You Buy. It Comes From How You Wear What You Buy.

Anyone can buy clothes. It doesn't matter where you buy them (although Paris Hilton may tell you different.) Clothes are plentiful! There are shopping malls and boutiques everywhere. There are second hand stores filled with everything people bought at those mall stores and boutiques last year or years ago. Everywhere you look there are clothes!  I am here to tell you it's all in what you do with your clothes that gives you your own personal style. People say that I always look great. (Well that is not true. You should see me in my sweats right now;) But back to the subject. People really do say that! I honestly don't feel that I always look great. However, I do think that I have my own unique sense of style. I think that people often mistake the word great with unique when referring to my style. I admit that I get very bored with routine so I always try to mix things up a little. Life doesn't always give me the opportunity to mix things up. Having a family requi...

Patent Leather Princess

Patent leather flats always remind me of the sweet, adorable and almost unbelievably talented Shirley Temple. I always hoped that slipping a pair of these on my feet would make me into the magical dancer that she was. Unfortunately it would take more work than just wearing the shoes to be as talented. But at least I felt that I was one quarter of the way there as long as my shoes were as shiny as Shirley's. I am not sure if Shirley even know's about the strong influence she has had over young ladies of every age in every era, but when it comes down to it, it's all about her patent leather shoes. What fancy feet she had! Kate Moss loves her patent flats. And she wears them well! {from left to right: Tory Burch, Alexander Wang} Patent leather flats come in all kinds of different shapes and designs nowadays. Almost too many! It's so hard to choose just one! {below: Marc by Marc Jacobs}  These are just too cute!   What I wore: ...

Fanciful Feathers

This feather sash from Icing101 above is no longer available, but I just had to post it anyway. You could make something like this yourself! You should also check out the other items from Icing 101 that are available right now. So cute! This sash made of feathers, grosgrain ribbon, and rhinestones is just so pretty! How could you not love this?! We are always seeing feathers in fashion, so making a purchase like this would not be considered a "trendy purchase." Of course there will be certain times of the year that you will wear feathers more. I tend to reach for anything feathery during the colder months of the year. They just look so fluffy and cozy! Feathers also look great worn for evening, since they can look extremely elegant. I was skeptical about purchasing this feather sash from Talbots since I didn't think it would be something I would wear often. Turns out I was wrong! I even dress up some of my hats with it from time to time! W...

It's Time For Laura's Style's Favorite Five Friday!

1. Tory Burch Cicely Velvet High Heel Pump.   This shoe makes my heart beat faster when I look at it I love it so much!!! There is just something about the color combo, the satin bow, the block heel and the Tory Burch emblem that excites me! Can you blame me? 2. "Christmas Girl" art print by my favorite artist Danny Roberts.   This sketch is just so beautiful and the colors he used are really quite cheerful......just in time for the holidays!!!  3. 60's gainsbourg suede jacket from Sally Jane Vintage on Etsy.   This jacket is just so cool and the color is to die for. LOVE the wide lapel as well as the leather collar and pocket accents.  4. Raspberry glass sterling silver ring from Silpada.   Yes this ring is big and bold. Just the way I like my rings. It makes such a statement!!!  Again, the color is amazing!!! (I think I am seeing a trend here as far as color for my favorite five this week!) 5.  Frieda & Nellie friend...

A Little Black Dress Boring??? Nonsense!

How important is it to have a little black dress in your wardrobe?? I say it's one of the most versatile, most functional, and most worn pieces in mine! It can go from day to night, from casual to dressy, from cute & sassy to sexy & seductive. On those days when I am in a hurry or my brain is a little fuzzy, what do I reach for? MY LITTLE BLACK DRESS! I knew upon purchasing this dress two seasons ago that it would be a timeless addition to my wardrobe. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but it is a faux wrap style and there is a cute little feminine ruffle that goes down one side of the skirt.  What I wore: ~little black dress from Talbots ~maroon-ish colored tights from Target ~black patent leather belt from Wilsons Leather ~statement necklace from Talbots (I wear this a lot!) ~ Cole Haan microfiber kitten heel boots

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...
