The Art of Transitional Dressing

I am not sure what the weather is like right now in your neck of the woods, but here in the beautiful state of Maine it has been simply perfect! Fall typically is the season that every Mainer seems to favor. You've gotta love those cool mornings with temps down in the 40's sometimes in the 30's and then the gradual warm up to the perfect temp in the mid 60's or 70's. It is just so comfortable for us human beings! However, for us fashionista's these temps can be challenging when it's time to figure out what to wear. Everyone tells you to wear layers. Layers are good, but it can be challenging to make the right layering decisions when getting dressed. You still want to look pretty!  Here are some of my tips on how to layer and still maintain that great look you are trying to achieve:  Layer on a stunning scarf. This will keep you warm in the am and pm. You may have to remove the scarf during the day due to hot flashes, so don't concentrate too much...

As George Costanza says: "Do the OPPOSITE!"

Life can get a little boring. We sometimes get stuck in a rut and we simply cannot get out. Actually, it's not that we can't get out, it's that we feel safe in our rut so we stay in it by choice. That's right, it is a choice. In order to get out of our rut we need to make the decision to get out. This can be difficult. The best way to get out is to change things up a bit. Instead of drinking coffee in the morning, drink tea. Instead of going for a walk, ride a bike. Instead of listening to the same station, change things up by finding some new music or trying a new station. Doing something different takes courage, but if George Costanza can do it, then you can ;) I find that a lot of ladies get stuck in a style rut. They wear the same thing and choose the same styles when they go shopping. They complain about their antics but they don't do anything about it because they are not sure what to do. Below are some ideas on changing up "the usual".   lit...

The Power Of A White Blouse

{Me wearing my Talbots white poplin blouse.} Picture this. It's finally Friday. You have had a fabulous week and have put together some great looks! But today is Friday. You are tired. Actually more like exhausted. Yet you don't want to ruin your fantastic "fashion streak" that you have been on. Just remember this. When all else fails, a white blouse will never fail you. It may seem basic, but accessorized, it is anything but. I encourage you to own at least one, if not two great white blouses. You won't be sorry. the white blouse will never let you down :) { Theory } This white blouse is silk and it's from Talbots . This could be another must have. What do you think? I think GORGE!

Where Were You On FASHION'S NIGHT OUT?

FNO SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2012 IN BANGOR, MAINE! WHO SAYS THAT BANGOR, MAINE ISN'T FASHIONABLE?  JUST LOOK AT US! {Frome left to right: Laura (that's me), Melissa, Brandi & Patty} All this talk about FNO! (That's Fashion's Night Out, just in case you aren't up on all the abbreviated lingo) I bet some of you are asking, what the heck is Fashion's Night Out? Am I right? There are way to many people that are not familiar, so I feel that it is my duty to fill you all in :) Fashion's Night Out was developed by VOGUE and the CFDA (Yet another abbreviation. This one standing for Council of Fashion Designers of America) FNO was intended to boost the fashion and retail world through celebrating the joy of shopping. It's basically fashion's own holiday! It takes place every September right at the start of fashion week in NYC. So exciting! We brought Fashion's Night Out to Talbots in Bangor, Maine! Where did you celebrate FNO and what did you we...

The Right Dress Is The White Dress!

Yes it's true, all this talk about fall fashion while working in the retail world tends to make me rush the summer away a little too soon. The truth is that we still have some fantastic days ahead and the first real day of autumn is actually not until September 22nd. We still have plenty of time to wear some great light weight looks. I love the idea of a white (or cream) lace dress for this time of year. One with sleeves will look appropriate for every season.   The Right Dress Is The White Dress~ by lauraly on Polyvore One of the main reasons why I feel like a white (or cream) lace dress would be a nice addition to your wardrobe is because it can look very fresh in the spring and summer and it looks fantastic with black tights and boots in the cooler weather! Trust me, the right dress is a white dress! You won't be sorry that you own one!
