Laura's Lovely Look Of The Day ~ Big Pearls & Polka Dots

Today I wore polka dots and some really big pearls. I debated adding another color to this look such as yellow, pink or red, but I thought that my big pearl necklace from TALBOTS was quite enough. No need to add another point of interest. I usually wear this navy and white polka dot cardi from TALBOTS with a pair of colored jeans, but I felt like being just a little more classic today instead of sporty. I kept the look pretty monotone by staying with navy from head to toe. Did my navy's match you ask? No, not exactly. My ponte knit  pants from TALBOTS were just a little different shade of navy than my cardi. And my Bandolino suede wedges were just a shade off from my pants. They didn't clash, so I wasn't too worried about it, nor should you be if you choose to wear an all one color look. As I looked in the mirror, I felt that I was missing something though. It was then that I added the very thin white patent leather belt from TALBOTS . This look was comfortable, yet ...

Fashion Loves The Monaco Grand Prix!

I never knew that my husband would be one to know more about what is going on in fashion than I. However today, he proved me wrong.  Today is the Monaco 2013 Grand Prix which takes place in Monaco which is located off the French Rivera in Western Europe, just in case you didn't know. My husband has just informed me that it is one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world. The video below will educate you on the who, what, when and where of the Monaco Grand Prix 2013 Okay, so my husband knows that I am not completely a race car fan. However, it is one of the only sporting events that I find can keep my attention for more than 5 minutes so I am tuning it to it this morning. (It's 3:15pm in Monaco right now.) But anyway, his main objective was to inform me of the fashion shows that take place the day before the races begin in Monaco at the infamous Amber Lounge in order to raise money for some of the worlds most amazing charities. Read the paragraph below ...

Laura's Lovely Look of the Day ~ Saturday Serenity

Today I feel like being at home, being barefoot and every once in a while doing a little dance as I listen to Pandora in the background. This is my lazy day. But since my husband is home with me, I decided to not keep the yoga pants on. I felt a little Julianne Hough/Kelly Pickler tribute coming on while wearing this look at home.  {Left: Julianne Hough , Right: Kellie Pickler }  I think the scarf with fringe that I wore around my waist from one of my favorite boutiques in Belfast, Maine called  Coyote Moon , gave this look a western feel. I love the sleeve on this blouse from TALBOTS  that I purchased last summer. It subtly bares the shoulder and reminds me of a ballet dancers costume. The signature fit light wash jeans from TALBOTS really are soft and stretchy enough to dance in. And since I still call myself a dancer, even though I have not performed or taken a ballet class in years, doesn't mean I still don't dance around the house once in a while. S...

Incorporate Gatsby Style Into Your Everyday Style

{The Great Gatsby 1974} {The Great Gatsby 2013} I know you are seeing and hearing about it every where, but I just couldn't not post a blog about The Great Gatsby! The movie has made it's big debut again with it's new all-star cast. I won't go into who plays who, because I am sure that unless you are living under a rock, you already know all about that. I am just going to give you a few little fashion tips for you to incorporate The Great Gatsby style into your own every day life without looking like you are going to a costume party.  1) Don't get a tan this summer. Pale with rosy cheeks is the way to go. 2) Wear your pearls. Long strands are preferable, worn doubled up around your neck. Think Coco Chanel. 3) Add a little fringe to your life. Perfect and a little different alternative to the typical cocktail dress! 4) Wear your hair in a bob and curl it under just a tad. If you have long hair, use bobbi pins in order...

Laura's Lovely Look of the Day ~ Carefree Cashmere

Last week mother nature decided to tease us here in Maine. It was mild and warm. The temps reached 70 degrees! This week has been a bit windy and chilly with temps only reaching the mid 50's. And I am not complaining! It was the perfect weather to wear my light weight cashmere sweater from TALBOTS in English mustard. In order to keep this look springy, I chose to wear my silk floral scarf, my Heritage fit slim ankle jeans in lapis, and my white vintage D'Orsay pumps, all from TALBOTS . Some say they would never wear white shoes. I say nonsense! When worn correctly, white shoes can make a great statement in the spring and summer. I accessorized with my Silpada pink glass cocktail ring, my pearl drop earrings made by my friend Maria, and my navy canvas belt with gold hardware from TALBOTS . This look made me feel a bit preppy. And I loved it!

ONARDs Artwork

I was looking for a unique i phone case when I ran across ONARDs artwork on Etsy. I would dare say this these are the cutest i phone cases I have ever seen! This is the one that I chose, but there are so many to choose from. It wasn't easy to pick one out. And if you don't see a design you like, you can message ONARDs and suggest a design that you have in mind. They are all hand painted, so each one is unique. I was thinking a ballet dancer would be cute. Maybe that will be my next order. Click here to go ONARDs Etsy site and check them out. This is the packaging that my ONARDs i phone case came in. A work of art all on it's own!

Laura's Lovely Look of the Day ~ Geometric Fashion

Today my look is very casual and comfortable. But I still wanted to look pulled together. I chose this bright geometric print top from TALBOTS and put it with my signature fit cropped jeans also from TALBOTS . I thought about glamming it up a bit with a heel, but decided that I would give my feet a rest and wear these sparkly Kenneth Cole loafers that I have neglected for a while. They are so comfortable even while wearing them with bare feet all day. No blisters! My belt and earrings also came from TALBOTS . And as you can see, my handsome cat Spice managed to make his way into the picture. He tends to just be so curious about my every move. Isn't he lovely?!! He loves his mother.

The Most Fashionable Book of the Moment

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of standing in line for about an hour at Sarah Smiley's book signing at The Briar Patch in Downtown Bangor Maine. It was poring rain outside (we needed it!) but that didn't hold anyone back from wanting to meet, greet and hug Sarah Smiley. (You will want to hug her. She's just so cute and down to earth!) All three of her adorable children signed each book. Even Lindell, her youngest. He just cheated a little. Sarah had a signature stamp made for him. She knew his patience level and her's was not going to last while signing hundreds of books for their adoring fans. "Can I have this puppet mom?" I heard Lindell ask. "No." Sarah said sternly knowing that he might throw a fit and then turned back to her fans with a smile. I just loved that! Sarah is about as real as you can get. As a mom myself, I know just how difficult it can be when you are in public with your children. There is just no way you can make them be pe...

Happy Mother's Day

{My mother and I} I believe that every woman in some way, shape or form is a mother. Whether or not you actually gave birth to a human being, as a woman, you have probably had someone in your life that has filled your heart with so much joy and even through the pain, the stress, and the anxiety that person has caused you, you still love them.  That's called unconditional love. Happy Mother's Day to all the women out there who read my blog. And remember, even if that person that you have cared for so deeply all of their life has not told you how special to them you are today, I'm telling you to never give up on them. Know in your heart and mind that you have made a difference in their life and one day they will tell you how much you mean to them. God has a way of making people realize the mistakes they have made or the gratitude they never showed over time. {My baby Devin (age 16) and I}

What's In YOUR Bag?

Honestly, I don't know how men do it. They walk through life with everything they need in their pockets! If I were a guy I'd definitely be one that carries a man bag everywhere I go.  {photo via Posh24.com } Us women tend to be very picky about the bag that we carry. We truly believe that we can determine a lot about a woman's personality by her choice of hand bag. But I believe that you can tell a lot more about a woman's personality by what she carries inside of her bag. Here is the bag I am carrying at this moment. It's a TALBOTS purchase from about four years ago. I just love the flowers and butterfly motif. And here is what I carry in my bag. If you must know, I have a lipstick/lipgloss fetish. I have tried in the past to be more of a minimalist, but somehow I always end up with about twelve different lip things in my bag! So I decided to just accept myself for who I am and carry a separate little cosmetic bag for all my lipsticks and gloss...

Prom Primping 101

Prom.  One of the most important days (and nights) in a girls life.  Wouldn't you agree?    { Yes, t hat is me in the above photos holding my boyfriend's hand. Yes, I married him. He prefers to not be pictured on my blog and I respect that.  And since this post isn't about him anyway, it's no big deal, right? } (You are dying to see him aren't you!) It has been a long time since I have been to a prom, but that doesn't mean that I don't remember how I felt while getting ready for it. I bet my parents remember better than I, since they are the ones who let me pick my dress out along with the prettiest gloves, bag, shoes and jewelry to accessorize. In fact one year, my mother actually made me my prom dress. Completely couture! I was (and still am now) a very lucky girl! Below I have picked out some of my favorite prom dress styles for 2013. Which one will you pick? {The High Low} {If I were a teenager in 2013, this would be my per...
