Rockin' RED

RED lipstick is the universal classic for every lady. History says that it has been around for about 5,000 years! Ancient Mesopotamian women may have been the first to invent lipstick. They made it from crushed semi precious stones. Cleopatra painted her lips from the red color extracted from crushed red carmine beetles mixed with ant eggs which provided the base. Can you say DISGUSTING?! Thank goodness for red no.5!! It wasn't until the 16Th century that actual tubes of lipsticks were made from beeswax and plants. Now we have so many shades of lipstick to choose from! Red lipstick is always in style, but it just so happens to be making a huge come back in the fashion industry at the moment. It seems that most ladies I have talked to say they can't wear red lipstick because it's too bright. Well, I say YES YOU CAN! You just have to choose the right color to compliment your skin tone and you will find that your red lips are a big confidence builder. If you have a warmer comp...

Groovy is Back!

When you see the new styles of maxi dresses, tie died t shirts, and peace signs do you think "Been there done that."? Well just because you've done it before doesn't mean you can't do it again! Remember, when fashion comes back around it isn't exactly like you did it the first time. It always comes back with an updated modern twist. The hairstyles and make up of today alone make these "old" looks into something new. Also the fabrics and construction of the garments are much nicer now. If you like these looks from the 60's try wearing them this way: A maxi dress with a pair of sexy high heel sandals, a tie dyed t shirt with peg leg cropped pants. Or a peace sign made of rhinestones. Most real hippies didn't wear these pieces in this way.

Jackets, The Long and the Short of It

Jackets are one of my favorite pieces of clothing to put on. They come long. They come short. You just need to determine what style is right for you. They really can transform an outfit from dull and boring to fun and fashionable . You can throw it on over a t shirt and a pair of jeans and look tres chic. I love jackets that have anything interesting on them from a little gathering on the shoulders to ruffles on the bottom. I also think that a double breasted jacket looks great. Love the button detail. Patterns like a madras plaid or a floral design is nice for this time of year. Jackets make getting dressed really easy too. If you have a variety of jacket styles in your wardrobe, the same pants or skirts that you tend to wear over and over take on a whole different look with the jacket that you choose. Also, don't be afraid to try a skinny belt around the jacket, especially if it's a longer style. Jackets, however, tend to be a bigger investment though. They can be a little pr...

Beautiful Belts!

Belts are not just for keeping your pants up anymore. As you have probably already noticed, ladies are sporting belts on the outside of cardigans, dresses, blouses, tunics, and t-shirts. Even our first lady seems to love this look! Belts make an outfit more interesting, but you have to beware. Just because belts are hip right now doesn't mean that every outfit deserves one. Mostly belts look nice on their own, meaning don't bother with a necklace if you choose to wear one. Keep the look clean. Another idea is to purchase a pretty ribbon (satin, grosgrain, etc.) at your fabric store and tie it in a pretty bow around your waist. I love this look. It's so simple yet very unique. Here are a few fun examples of ways to sport a belt:

Metallics Are Oh So Modern

Metallics are the new neutral!!! For all you ladies out there that like to get the "exact match" in a pair of shoes or a handbag to match your outfit, please GET OVER IT!! It's too hard, plus it's very old school. (Old school can be good sometimes though. Like with a pair of old school Pumas or Converse) I am just loving the metallics not only for the fact that they are making fashionistas lives a lot easier, but they are so just so gorgeous and they add that little bit of spice to an otherwise ordinary outfit. Plus they seem to be carrying over into the fall/winter 2009 collections as well. These are just a few of my favorite metallic accessories:

Laura's Passion for Fashion

If you know me, then you have a petty good idea of how I feel about fashion. If you don't know me, I am here to tell you that not a day goes by that I don't think about fashion. I love it all! The clothes, handbags, jewelry, makeup, hairstyles, you name it. I am always thrilled when I can give anyone a bit of advice to make them feel better about themselves. We all have a signature style. Some of us just need a little help finding it! That's what I am here for and that's what I love to do!
