Five Things to Try in 2013

2013 is right around the corner. Have you made your resolution(s) yet? I think we all have a few changes we would like to make. But sometimes we feel like making a resolution is scary. Trying to commit to something that you normally don't do can sometimes feel like you are just setting yourself up for failure. I am totally for anyone trying to get healthy in the new year, but make sure your resolution is attainable. Working out seven days a week sounds like a good idea, but is it realistic? Maybe committing to working out just three days a week would be a better idea. As for my new years resolutions.......I am still trying to decide what I want to accomplish in 2013. What I do know is what I want to try in 2013. Here are five things that I will take a stab at in the new year: 1 . Try a new make-up technique.  Sometimes I get stuck in a make up rut. I have been plucking my brows for years now and as I age I seem to be having to pluck less! This ...

A Laura's Style Christmas

I have had a lot of people ask what my husband gave me for Christmas. What does a man possibly pick out for someone like me? I give him so much credit. I'm sure it's not easy. Here is what he chose and I love each and every one: {A Bakelite bracelet from  The Antique Marketplace & Cafe , a brown winter puffer jacket complete with a fur trimmed hood from Sears , plastic bangles also from The Antique Marketplace & Cafe , a freshwater pearl necklace/earring/bracelet set from Sears , and last but certainly not least a Bakelite hand mirror from the 1940's that he purchased from Downeast Coins & Collectibles .}

Of course you can't go wrong with that little black cocktail dress, however it is so much fun to try something new and less traditional. Here are some modern holiday look ideas to get you thinking: holiday looks by lauraly featuring an agate necklace holiday by lauraly featuring long sleeve shirts holiday by lauraly featuring high heel shoes And here is what I wore to my holiday party. Two Simple Reasons Why I Like a Cape

{Cape from TAL B OTS }  The two simple reasons why I like a cape are: 1. They are fun to wear. 2. They are easy to layer over a blazer, while a coat over a blazer can make you feel all bound up. Do you own a cape?

Lavish Lace! (yes you can wear it every day)

A lot of ladies consider lace to be something they wear when they dress up. I say that you can integrate lace into your look for every day! You just might want to make it look a little less traditional. Try wearing lace with denim, or a cream lacy dress with black tights. All you have to do is balance the lace with something not so sweet. See below for a little lace inspiration: {via WeHeartIt } {via LookBooknu } {Jessica Stam wearing Carolina Herrera}

My #1 Must Have for 2012 (but I will wear it for years to come)

I have always loved lace. What can I say, I am a girly girl. So therefore a cream lace dress is a must have! Some say that this dress is way to fancy for their lifestyle. When I saw this dress at Talbots, my first thought was how versatile and timeless it was! Wear it to work this fall and winter with black tights. Wear it to work this summer with bare legs and nude pumps! Wear it to a cocktail party with your hair in a french twist. Wear it to your own wedding as the bride or it could be a fabulous reception dress! So many possibilities in just one little lace dress. How could one say no to this? Such a great staple for the wardrobe and you will wear it for years to come. {This is how I wore my cream lace shift this winter with black tights and black Cole Haan microfiber boots.} {Celebrities know how stylish a cream lace dress can be} As for my next lace purchase, I can feel this black lace top from Talbots in my future. Perfect with winter white trousers or ev...

The Practical PUFFER

I never thought that I would be the type to think practical when it comes to fashion. Wearing the latest styles have always been anything but functional for me. I have lived in the state of Maine all of my life, so you can imaging just how much of a struggle my fashionable life has been! However, I have always been more comfortable feeling a bit uncomfortable, knowing that having that feeling meant that I was "dressed."  I am going to tell you that times, they are a changing. And thank goodness! Just at the right moment! As I age it seems that practical styles are getting more and more popular. Or, is it that I just see it that way because I want to? You tell me. My husband recently asked me what I want for Christmas. Well besides a new Mac Book Pro, (which is inconceivable for us right now given our budget) I told him that the only thing I wanted for Christmas was a puffer coat. Here are some of my all time favorite puffer styles of this very moment: ...
