Dare to be Dressed!

It seems as though that from the beginning of time the only acceptable form of attire for a woman was a dress. It wasn't until the 1930's that women started to see pants as a fashion statement. Actresses like Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich made pants acceptable for the modern woman. That was 83 years ago! And to this day we are still wearing them with pride!

However, now for whatever reason, when a woman wears a dress she gets a double take. Why is she all dressed up, we wonder?

To me a dress is so simple. It seems to look great every time I put one on. It surprises me that more modern day women don't wear them. Our lives are busy. Get the kids up, get them to school, take that conference call, check your e mail, get into the shower, beauty up, get dressed and get to the office. How easy would it be to just through on a dress? I swear it would cut at least fifteen minutes to a half an hour of outfit planning and prepping. And dresses look amazing!

The thing you have to get over here is your fear of the dress. Just because you wear a dress doesn't mean you are heading to a wedding or a funeral. Dresses were the only acceptable form of fashion less than 100 years ago. And perhaps that's it. Maybe we are scared that once we put on a dress that we are less rebellious and/or courageous as a woman. We are afraid that we are giving in to society's "rules". I do not see it that way at all. In fact I feel like wearing a dress may be just a little more crazy and rebellious in today's society of pants! I have four words for you:
Dare to be DRESSED!

Here are some of my favorite dresses of the season:

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
