What Goes Into Planning My Looks?

Normally I don't have a heck of a lot of time to plan what I am going to wear. In fact I have to say that lots of the time I am figuring it out at the last minute. Sometimes I can't even fathom getting dressed before I take my shower. I always feel so much more fashionable after I get the hair and make-up done, so it's then that I really feel up to choosing what I am going to wear. However, I am going to change that. I am going to plan what I am going to wear at the same time I am making my to do list for the week. The two subjects really go hand in hand. I need to wear clothing that suits my workload for each day. Believe it or not, working in fashion can get very physical and if I am wearing a pencil skirt and high heels on the days when I am merchandising, then by the end of the day I feel like cutting my feet off because if I don't, they are gonna fall off anyway! This week is going to be one of those crazy weeks where I am running around, processing freight, li...

Laura's Lovely Look ~ Vanilla Sunday

The weather has been nice enough here in Maine to not have to completely put away all of my summer attire yet!  Happy Sunday September 29th, 2013! What I wore : ~jacket and cami by Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent ~Heritage fit straight leg dark denim from TALBOTS ~brown peep toe pumps by Clarks ~earrings and bracelet by Silpada ~vintage cameo ring

Closet Tip ~ Save Those Shopping Bags!

Save those gorgeous paper shopping bags to use as cute liners for the wire shelves that you may have in your closet to prevent the wire imprints on your clothing. I always love the shopping bags that I accumulate and hate to get rid of them, but honestly I never use them. That is, until now!

Scarf Rings Are Fantastic

You may think that scarf rings are old school, but I think that they are so old school that they are hip. Everyone is wearing infinity scarves these days, and as we all know, if your scarf isn't designed as an infinity scarf then you can easily make it into one. And there is nothing wrong with that look! I love infinity scarves and I actually wear them frequently. But I just recently came across this scarf ring in my jewelry box that I purchased from TALBOTS a few years back and decided to bring it on out. The result: a retro twist on how to wear a scarf. In fact it's so retro that it's modern!  A scarf ring may be a rare find these days. You may be able to come across one at a yard sale, an estate sale or maybe even a resale shop. I would even check ebay . You never know what you may come across! Would you wear a scarf ring?

Laura's Lovely Look ~ Black & White Retro

I didn't intend for this look to a be very "Mad Men" secretary kind of look. It just sort of turned out that way! It wasn't until I saw the photos of myself, did I realize, "Wow! I look like Peggy Olson!" (see photo below) What I wore : ~ TALBOTS everything! ~nail polish by Essie in 5th Avenue ~pearl earrings from Quality Jewelers {Photo Courtesy of Michael Yarish / AMC 'Mad Men Season 5 Episode Photos: Stan Rizzo (Jay R. Ferguson), Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) and Ken Cosgrove (Aaron Staton) in Episode 1-2'}

Sunday Inspiration ~ Shop Your Closet!

Don't Be Afraid To Copy Your Fellow Fashion Friends!

One of the best things about being a fashion blogger is being an inspiration to ladies around the world and I have been able to make some great friends in the process! My Facebook friend Dené is pictured in the photo on the left. I saw her look posted on her Facebook page on Monday morning and recognized that I too own all of these pieces from TALBOTS! I told her that this was a great Monday look and decided to be a copy cat. That's one thing you should never be afraid to do. Just because you are coping a look that someone else has sported doesn't mean that you are trying to be that person. We all should know that would be impossible! I think it's cool how two ladies can wear the same pieces but still look like individuals. Great style is not only about the clothing and accessories that you wear, it's more about the person who wears them. See how this look I stole from Dené takes on a completely different persona on my body. Plus we all can learn a great deal fro...

Laura's Lovely Look ~ Orange & Navy

It's important to me that I look put together even when I want to be more casual. And I have to say that this look was very comfortable. There is nothing like being able to wear my leopard print hair calf ballet flats all day. They are probably the most comfortable shoe that I own. I hesitated to wear them with this outfit, but I feel that animal print accessories should serve as a neutral, therefore they should easily coordinate with many looks. And I think they worked well with this one! What I wore : ~ TALBOTS textured scoop-neck sweater and Heritage fit chinos in tomato ~ American Eagle necklace ~earrings from Target ~leopard print haircalf ballet flats by Aerosoles ~ OPI nail polish in Germanicure

How Did YOU Celebrate Fashion Week?

{My models and I celebrating our Tribute to Fashion Week. From left to right: Cindy, Suz, Laura (that's me), Lise, Marion, Anne, Jodi and Elizabeth} Fashion week is still going strong in London as we speak. Then we move on to Milan and then Paris. Fashion week in NYC was September 5th-September 12th. How did  YOU  celebrate?  It's sometimes difficult to get people to understand how passionate about fashion I am. But every year I manager to bring a group of ladies together who totally back me up and understand my crazy love for this world of glamour. I eventually hope to get some men involved!  We even managed to give our already adorable Elizabeth a whole new look for our special evening! Dejavu, a local salon, did her fabulous hair and make-up and TALBOTS provided the attire. Elizabeth was amazing and I can't even tell you how happy I was to have this opportunity to make her feel like a Disney Princess! I just had to post this gorgeous photo of ...

Sunday Inspiration ~ Denim Doesn't Have To Be Dull

You may want to kick back and relax today. And that's okay. But if you feel like putting on a pretty necklace while you are kicking back, more power to you.

Laura's Lovely Look ~ Dressed Up Denim

I almost wore pants today, but it is always so difficult to find a pair of pants that I feel great in. A skirt always seems to work.  What I wore: ~ TALBOTS denim shirt, twill skirt, earrings and cabochon bead necklace ~ Miz Mooz shoes ~ OPI nail polish in Germanicure

Changing It Up Just A Touch

I don't know about you, but I get bored with myself very quickly. If you don't believe me, ask my hair stylist Charlene . Together we are trying to grow my hair out. I say "together" because without her support, I'd probably be chopping it off long before now. She says that she can just picture me with long thick lovely locks. I trust her vision. Charlene helps keep me happy by giving me a fresh color and micro trim once every five weeks. And every time I go see her, she gives my look a subtle change by doing something a little different with my bangs. This time we went for a choppy fringe and a few layers in the hair that frames the face near my chin.  I will continue to grow my hair out thanks to Charlene. I wonder what she will do next month? What I wore: ~ TALBOTS cheetah print silk blouse, slim cropped Signature fit jeans in riding red and brown leather cross body bag ~ Silpada sterling silver bracelet ~vintage red plastic bangle ...

Laura's Weekly Beauty Review ~ Nars Satin Lip Pencil

I have recently become obsessed with Nars . I am not sure why. I think that it's the fact that they make high quality products that are fantastic for creating a multitude of looks. This is one of the #1 make up brands that are used on models during fashion week and photo shoots. I actually have not tried Nars products until now. I am going to purchase one Nars product as I run out of each one of my make-up products that I am using now. Next week it will be Nars mascara, so stay tuned for that review. This week however, I purchased Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Isola Bella which is a peachy nude color. This product isn't for just lining lips. It's like a lipstick/lipstain. I love it. It's not drying like a lipstick and it's more modern looking than a lip gloss. It has a mattifying effect that looks so modern yet it feels silky when being applied. I'm ready for a change. Aren't you?

The Coat Is The New Handbag

It may still be warm outside, but we all know how fast that can change. It's best to plan ahead so that when the time comes to bundle up, you are prepared to look not only amazing but also manage to stay WARM.  We have all obsessed over having that perfect handbag each season. Well, I am here to tell you that this fall, having the right coat replaces having the right bag. I am so happy that this is the case. It actually makes more sense. Coats keep you warm. Handbags don't. Not that your handbag isn't important. Just think of the coat as being the new handbag. Your coat should be priority #1.You will be wearing it a lot. Make it great. Make your handbag priority #2. Here are a few of my favorite coats of the season. 1. Cozy Camel { Max Mara } 2. Houndstooth  { Selected available at ASOS} 3. Fur Details { Talbots } 4. Borrowed from the boys { Zara } 5. Hunter-esque  { Free People } 6. Jacquard { Moncler Birdy jacquard dow...

Laura's Lovely Look ~ A Little Chevron Goes A Long Way

This scarf from TALBOTS may be designed using neutral colors, but I just love the boldness of the chevron pattern. What is chevron you ask? Chevron is a pattern of inverted V shapes. This print has a very retro vibe and was made popular back in the 1970's. It has such a mod feel to it. What do you think about chevron prints? What I wore : ~ TALBOTS chevron print scarf, sequin tank, boyfriend jeans and bangle ~ Gap  French vanilla jacket ~ Mixit brand earrings from JC Penny ~ Sofft neutral suede pumps

The Foundation of Fashion

{I'm in love with these gorgeous silk scarves designed and crafted by artist Jodi Clayton} It's no secret. I love fashion. I love art. Lets face it. I love pretty things! And I'll bet that you do too. As I flip through my September issue of Harper's Bazaar, which is my favorite fashion magazine by the way, I begin to think about all I need  want for fall. I start making a list, narrowing it down to my ten must haves, which is not an easy task by the way. So far I have it narrowed down to twelve. I need to scratch off two more items. A tough decision for me!  I must say that this difficult compromise was made much easier after I made a trip to One Lupine Fiber Arts Studio located at 170 Park Street in Bangor, Maine. I have always loved the idea of shopping local and supporting local designers, but I had never given it too much thought until I had the opportunity to speak to a local designer in the flesh. Recently, I was lucky enough to meet Jodi Clayton , owner...
