Laura's Lovely Look ~ Dressing Up The Denim....Again

I know, I know. I'm doing it again. Mixing casual with dressy is what I do best! I have to say that this faded denim blouse from TALBOTS is one of my most worn and favorite items in my closet. Do you own a denim blouse? What I wore : ~ TALBOTS denim blouse, donegal tweed tiered skirt and black tights ~ belt from Wilsons Leather ~ patent leather ballet flats BCBG ~ earrings from Silpada ~ sterling silver heart ring from T.J. Mixing & Matching At The Expo

Last Sunday the Paradis & Foster Wedding Expo Plus took place at The Cross Center in Bangor, Maine. I managed to get twelve lovely ladies together to show off some great mix and match looks from TALBOTS ! It was a great little fashion show showing how you can wear one item two different ways. Lots of ladies tend to purchase dressy items for specific events in their lives and then they never wear them again. These pieces just hang in their closet for the next ten years, and before they know it, they grow out of it or their taste changes, etc. What a waste of money! I say, bring those pieces out and wear them in your everyday life!  Here are some examples: A faux fur vest can be easily dressed up with trousers or a skirt for evening, but also looks fabulous worn with a pair of your favorite jeans. A jewel studded collar shirt looks amazing worn to work with a blazer, or to a cocktail party with a little black lacy skirt. It also looks fantastic worn under you...

The Elegance Of The "Head-Kerchief"

Scarves worn on the head can be so glamorous. I recently have become obsessed with head-kerchiefs since my close friend Charlene came down with breast cancer. She has recently become cancer free! But now she is helping ladies who have been diagnosed who are coping with hair loss during chemo treatments. I love the scarf tying techniques that she is teaching. Not that I would ever wish to have breast cancer! But I have to say that Charlene always looked so beautiful even when undergoing treatments. I just love the look of scarves worn on the head. I think it's the combo of boho/glamour that is created when wearing this look that really gets to me.

Cool Finds For $1.00!

There's nothing like purchasing something cool for less whether it's something that you will wear, something pretty for the home, or even simply something to write on and write with! I am proud of my pretty wall decals that I purchased. (above photo) They were mostly all individual stickers that easily adhere to anything and are also easy to remove. (They are so cute! Why would you want to remove?!) I arranged them on the wall that my bookshelf is on so it almost looks like I have dandelions growing on my shelf. Pretty cool!  I am also proud of my little notepads and metallic gel pens that I purchased. (above photo) I am always writing little notes here and there so I always keep a pad in my purse and the metallic gel pens are gonna be great when signing Christmas cards and thank you notes this holiday season.  Wall decals: $1.00 Note pads: four for $1.00 Metallic gel pens: two for $1.00 Total cost: $3.00 plus tax at my local Family Dollar store. Gotta lov...

Today Is..... "What Did You Buy?" .....Friday!!

Believe it or not, after doing a day of research, these riding boots by Nine West Vintage Collection are the winners! My day of research consisted of trying just about every single synthetic boot on in the Bangor, Maine Mall. Why synthetic you ask? Well, because I don't really have the cash to spend on a real leather boot at this very moment. Or so I thought. I ended up with these, which are in fact real leather and ON SALE at Macy's . I decided that these were the ones after trying on a ton of cool riding type boots because they actually will work with my skirts as well as over my slim leg jeans as I am wearing them here. They seem to be sleek and not bulky which is what I found most riding boots to be. Some riding boots seemed to even make noise when I walked! (It was the buckle rattling. Very annoying) Do you have a pair of riding boots for fall? If so, what kind did you choose? What I wore : ~ J.Crew navy boyfriend blazer  ~ American Eagle plaid b...

Laura's Lovely Look ~ Embracing Fall

It's the third week of October and all is well. My Farmer's Almanac calendar says that for every fog in October there will be a snow in winter. So far we are up to four snows. Yikes! Lately the weather has been beautiful with highs in the 60's but today it may only reach the high 50's. I am thinking that it's getting chilly enough to wear my corduroys, but not cold enough to snow yet! Here is what I wore today : ~ J.Crew navy boyfriend blazer ~ TALBOTS white blouse, harvest cream cords, statement necklace and animal print belt ~ Sofft camel suede pumps ~ Silpada ring ~gold stud earrings from W.C. Bryant & Sons Jewelers, which used to be located in Downtown Bangor, Maine. Those were the good old days!

Sunday Inspiration ~ Play A Game!

There is nothing like playing a game with the fam. And I don't mean a Playstation game. I'm talking about a real live hands on GAME. Here I am playing a little Jenga with my husband.   And we all fall down!

Laura's Lovely Look ~ A Little Audrey

I was thinking about how much I adore Audrey Hepburn as I put together this look today. She is everything I adore and more! What I wore : ~ TALBOTS turquoise houndstooth jacket, Signature fit ankle jeans, love knot earrings and gold bangles ~ Miz Mooz shoes ~ Stella & Dot turquoise enamel bracelet

How To Layer Your Necklaces

{Sarah Jessica Parker} {Moi} I'm going to keep this post really short and sweet. Layering necklaces is all about proportion. You want your look to have a little rhyme and a little reason, so make sure your necklaces have something in common whether it be a like stone or metal. You also want them to be about about at least an inch apart. Also think in threes and in some cases fours. I feel most comfortable wearing three. Honestly I feel I could use more necklaces in the 20-22inch range for the ultimate balanced look, but I do my best with what I have for now. Here are a few examples of how I layer my necklaces:  What I wore : ~ Gap sweater in gray heather ~ Talbots checked pleated skirt, black tights, cross body bag, owl necklace and heart necklace ~ Silpada sterling silver & crystal "diamonds by the yard" Tiffany style necklace ~sterling silver heart ring from T.J.Maxx ~ Gianni Bini black suede booties
