Why Do You Keep Your Clothes?

Let's face it. There are certain pieces in your wardrobe that are just so difficult to get rid of. You know they are dated. You know that you are no longer a juniors size 3. You know that you have not worn it in 20 years, but you still grasp it like it's still the year 1994 or in some cases like it's still 1984 or even 1974. Ladies, get over it. I know that sounds a little bit harsh, but seriously, what is the problem?
(Please leave me a comment. I'd love to help ;)

The first thing you must do in order to solve this problem is look in the mirror. It doesn't matter if you look in the mirror with make up on or not. It doesn't matter what you are wearing when you study your reflection in the mirror either. All that matters is that you just breathe and gaze into your own eyes. Reflect on the past. Your past will probably consist of many good times and bad times alike. Regardless of what you have been through in your life, you must learn to own it and live in the present and plan for the future. Say "Yes, this is what happened to me. I realize it. And I am who I am now because of it. I am strong. I am beautiful. Life will continue to be what I make it, so I will become a better woman because of what I have been through." You might cry, you might laugh, you might just stare at your reflection in the mirror. Whatever you do, just take it all in and discover the brave and beautiful woman that you are NOW and don't try to continue live in the past. You will become a happier woman if you continue this practice throughout the rest of your life. I guarantee it.

Now onto the wardrobe piece of this post.  As you may already know, I am a fashion/wardrobe stylist at my own company Laura's Stylist Service. I have scanned through some of the most interesting closets in my time. The feature that I most commonly see is simply owning too much stuff. And you would think that the closets that are over stuffed would be owned by the most stylish women. In fact, it's the complete opposite. And what hurts me the most is the woman who hires me to help her clean out the closet and then a month later goes right back into stockpile mode. The other element that is so sad to me, is the woman who holds onto the multiple stashes that she has made over the years. I can tell you for a fact that LLBean sweaters from the 1980's are not going to come back in style. Come to think of it, I don't remember them really being in style. And they are probably one of the most unflattering things I have ever seen in my 39 years of living on this planet. Please, don't take offense. I know they are warm, and since I live in Maine, I get it. Maybe we just wear it in our home when we are alone........;)
Don't get me wrong. Your wardrobe should not be completely filled with trendy pieces either. I have ran across that type of closet too. When I see a closet filled purely with trendy pieces, I see that I am dealing with someone who is trying to be someone they are not. The mirror technique that I mentioned before works well for this person too.

How do you feel after reading this article? Did I hit a nerve? Am I right? Do you need help? A stylist may be just what you need.
I am here for you.

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
