Favorite Fair Isle

maine fashion blogger

Do you ever get bored with the same old routine? I know I do. That's why I have decided to change things up a bit. Subconsciously I might be thinking about starting something fresh and new for the new year, but ultimately I have decided that I no longer believe in new years resolutions. Don't get me wrong. I totally believe in improving ones life such as breaking an addiction, gaining a good habit, etc., however I feel like sometimes when we make a new years resolution, we might do well with it for a little while and then we go right back to our old habit and give up. For some reason the term "new years resolution" frightens me. It leaves no room for error. I feel as though if I can make one small positive change every day, and allow myself to slip up once in a while, but then go right back to  improving and not giving up on myself, makes more sense. Human beings mess up once in a while. It's what we do as a species. We are not robots. We are here for each other and we need each other and last but not least, we must forgive each other and be given the opportunity to start over any day of the week. Not just on new years day. Do you agree?

On a different note, welcome to my new blog, Pine Trees And Pearls! (Formerly Laura's Style) I took my name out of the title because I just didn't feel like seeing it anymore. I thought Pine Trees And Pearls was a good name because it speaks to this lovely state that I live in that I never want to leave.

 Maine.

I decided to venture outside for a photo shoot yesterday. This is one of my favorite Fair Isle Sweaters of the season from Talbots. I put the links to my look below for your shopping pleasure :)

Love the new name of your blog. We just came back from Freeport. My family spends a couple of days each Christmas there. We love Maine. My dad grew up in Bar Harbor, so Maine is in my blood. Hope to some day move there.

Maine is a gorgeous state! The winters can be a bit long, but you'll get used to it if you make the best of it. Hope you get to move here!

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
