Laura's New Years Resolution: One Fashion Item & One beauty Item Per Month! {My Two Picks for January}

If you remember, back in December I made a New Years Resolution (watch the video HERE ) to purchase only one new fashion item and one new beauty product each month and I decided that on the 20th of every month I would post my purchases. So, h ere it is as promised. My first and only fashion item purchased in January!   The Ikat pencil skirt from Talbots . I used to think it was pronounced "i-cat," however I have been corrected. It is actually pronounced " ee-kaht ." Ikat is a method of printing on woven fabric. This is a pattern that we seem to see every spring and summer so I didn't hesitate to purchase it. Ikat is a classic pattern much like houndstooth, leopard print, and plaid. I especially love the rich jewel tones in this Ikat print pencil skirt from Talbots. Nice and bright. Just what I need at this time of year!      And this is my beauty purchase for the month of January: Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in a shade called ...

Geometry + Feminity = CHANEL 2012 SPRING COLLECTION

It was Dutch model Saskia de Brauw who opened the Chanel "Under The Sea" Spring 2012 fashion show in Paris at the Grand Palais. She says that she didn't know she was going to be opening the show until the morning of. It was her favorite moment of the season. And I can see why..... ;) Saskia de Brauw  The photos above are a perfect example of how Karl Lagerfeld managed to incorporate geometry and femininity into his yet again amazing collection for Chanel Spring 2012. The typical tweed that Chanel is known for is anything but typical in every Chanel collection but this time Karl has outdone himself. Tweed, geometry, and feminine flounce all in one design? I can hardly stand it!!! (I mean that in the utter most good way;) Karl, you are brilliant! {mixing patterns} I love the black and white houndstooth jacket with the black, white and pink swirling patterns of this dress. I have to say that this one made me think. I typically think of houndstooth as a ...

SPRING 2012 MAKE-UP TREND ALERT: Shocking Lipstick

The more shocking the lip colour the better for Spring 2012!  I ADORE this trend. This is a trend that we can wear right now in order to bring a little spring into our step or in this case into our kiss. I opted for the pink lip trend the other day to brighten me up. {see below} On my lips: Elizabeth Arden's "pink vibrations." See below for all the lip colour trends for Spring 2012. And don't be afraid to wear them right now! {photos below via Fashionizing.com } pink lips  coral lips  dark berry lips  purple lips red lips

A Stylist Who Has Her Own Stylist....huh???

I have always thought it to be a strange concept. A stylist who has her own stylist. A perfect example: Rachel Zoe Rachel is a stylist with her own stylist. His name is Joey Maalouf and HE is responsible for maintaining Rachel's signature California girl style. Rachel may be an incredible fashion stylist but it takes a team to win. And she is a winner for sure! Love you Rachel ! I (Laura Michaud) am also a stylist with her very own stylist. I consider myself extremely lucky to have a hair stylist who knows what hairstyle goes best with my fashion style. My hair stylists' name is Charlene Boggins and she works from her private studio at It's All About You Day Spa . Charlene is responsible for maintaining my modern and very Vidal Sassoon hairstyle. (she is a certified Vidal Sassoon stylist) I'm finally getting used to the fact that I literally don't have to think when I go see her every five weeks. She always knows what looks best and she just chan...

How To Incorporate Yellow Into Your Wardrobe

This is a perfect example of what I meant a few days ago when I said that yellow is the new neutral for Spring 2012. One might choose black, nude, brown or gray pumps by instinct to wear with this gorgeous violet dress by designer Angel Sanchez pictured on the model below. But notice how the yellow pumps seem to work incredibly well. Take any bright color that you are going to purchase this spring be it royal blue, red, pink or aqua and put a yellow accessory with it. Can you say FABULOUS?!!! Watch this happy yellow video below for some inspiration...... Or if you don't feel good about wearing yellow as a neutral this spring then go ahead and make it your accent color to any neutral. Here is how I incorporated yellow into my black and  white look. I have to say that I naturally be...

It's Not Too Late For Faux Fur!

Faux fur is sometimes something we hesitate to buy because we feel that it is too "outrageous" for every day life. Come on now!! You see it every fall and winter in every fashion magazine, yet you still seem to hesitate! Well, hesitate no more. Now is the best time to purchase something faux fur. "Why" you ask? You still have time to wear it because it's still absolutely FREEZING outside AND because most faux fur is on sale right now!  See below for my Saturday night movie night look:  (P.S. We saw "We Bought A Zoo" and it was AMAZING! I think it got bad reviews, but I found it highly emotional and the actors were fabulous! ) Faux fur bolero by Lauren Conrad . left: faux fur vest by Rebecca Taylor right: faux fur coat by Helene Berman Karen Kane faux fur bolero jacket Faux fur vest by Lucky brand There is one thing for sure. Fur will always be in style every fall and winter. You can count on it!
