How Do You Wear This Seasons Hot Tribal Print Trend Without Looking Like You Actually Belong to a Tribe?

YIKES!!!!
Who would even believe that this is the stunning Beyonce?! What a bad look for even the most beautiful person. Some people might find the above photo almost offensive. Others may find it beautiful. However, I am sure she didn't really wear this outside of the studio. She was posing for the cover shoot for the 90th anniversary cover of L’Officiel Paris while celebrating her African roots.
For once I can say that I look better than Beyonce in the top photo. (even though she would look fabulous wearing a burlap bag.) For my tribal look I decided to skip the face paint and opt for a more lady like interpretation. I bought this embroidered Aztec print skirt at Talbots about 5 years ago and I knew when I saw it that I would love and wear it forever. I am not a real tribal print person, but when I found a rare feminine sort of Aztecan print such as this, I knew I had to have it. It has a bit of a floral design which I think is what drew me in. I put a creamy colored "Audrey" style sweater with this skirt and little bow pumps to soften the look. I usually wear my hair up with this sweater because of the neckline, but I wore it down to make the look more laid back. I also popped on an aqua enamel bangle and aqua beaded earrings (that you can't see in the photo) to incorporate a pop of color.  I just wanted to prove to you that tribal prints don't have to look harsh. I think I proved it......didn't I?
Leave it to Oscar de la Renta to create the most perfectly lady like tribal prints. Click HERE to view his fall 2011 collection. I would wear them all! I love how he can take something wild and make it soft and feminine.

I thought this dress that I found on Etsy was another soft and feminine take on a tribal print. It would look so adorable with a pair of silver strappy sandals like the ones above left by Swedish Hasbeens for a more subtle look or a pair of bright yellow sandals like the ones on the top right by Yves Saint Laurent for a more "get me noticed" kind of look.

The tribal print dress below by Stolen Girfriends Club for ASOS is only for those ladies who dare to be daring! So adorable!

Absolutely LOVE the shoulder detail on this dress!

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
