Summer Must Have Pieces You Can Transition Into Adorable Back to School Looks!

Mel and I looking as stylish as we can possibly get on our 8th grade trip to Boston. We had a blast!  I think we were about 13 years old in this picture. My how time flies!

This blog post is dedicated to my BEST friend Melanie. (I still call her my BEST friend even though I very rarely see her these hectic days of our lives ;) Melanie is a teacher and she will be going back to school sooner than later. She asked me how she could take some of her summer clothes and transition them into something she can wear back to school. Below you will find seven of my summer must haves worn two different ways. One is a summer look. The other is a back to school look! As you can see, it is very simple to do. I just made each piece look a little more conservative and professional for back to school. You want to stay cool and look fabulous, while not being too distracting to the children. You want them to focus on learning, not fashion (like I did when I was in school!)
Here are my seven must haves for summer that you may or may not already have in your wardobe:
{In no particular order}

1~ a pretty floral sundress
2~ a chiffon skirt
3~ a striped tee
4~ a "worn in" tee
5~ pastel shorts
6~ a tunic dress
7~ a sheer blouse

1~ Here is our first look using a pretty floral sundress. The feather earrings along with the wedge sandals and the leather cord bracelet keep the summer look light. The denim blazer, brown belt, and comfy slingback clogs look more like you are in charge.
{Hint: If it is still too hot to layer a denim blazer over your sundress when you first go back to school, then try layering a feather light white tee shirt under the dress for a super chic look.}

2~ For our next back to school look I took that super light and airy chiffon skirt that you wore this summer with your tube top, and put it with a feminine flutter sleeve chambray blouse. Just add pearls, a watch and a cute floral ballet flat and you will look smart!

3~ Below we have our summer must have #3. The striped tee. Just like the one Melanie is wearing in our photo together at the top of this post!
(Even back then, Melanie knew how to take this timeless piece and make it her "own";)

4~ Next we have the "worn in" tee. By worn in, I mean that super light weight tee shirt you have been reaching for all summer. See how nice it can transition into one of your back to school must haves?!

5~ Here are the pretty pastel shorts that you just HAD to have this summer. How in the world can these work for back to school you ask? Just pair them with a pretty feminine blouse and an adorable ankle strap ballet flat and you are ready to discipline!

6~ The tunic dress is one item I am living in this summer. I mean really. How can such a simple piece look so cool?! I can just pop on my straw fedora, gold bangles and gold gladiators be ready to kick back, OR I can through on my lightweight denim vest, a cool chain necklace and my comfy clogs and be ready to teach you a lesson!

7~ Last, but certainly not least we have our favorite sheer blouse. This is such a feminine staple piece for our wardrobes. Wear it with a brightly colored pair of shorts for an unexpected fun look, OR wear it with a khaki pencil skirt and an amazing ballet flat and get down to business!
{Hint: you may need to layer a white or cream tank under your sheer blouse depending on exactly how sheer it is.}

Hey Mel, I hope this helps!

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
