How To Revamp Your Look On A Budget

Why is Kelly Osborne pouting?? I would be too if I just spent all that money on myself!!!

Okay, so maybe Kelly wasn't just shopping for herself, but you know what I am getting at. Have you ever left a mall with this much merchandise, bring it home and hang it up and still have nothing to wear?! It can happen to the best of us. And when you are on a budget, spending this much money is unthinkable! I am here to tell you that you do not, I repeat, DO NOT have to go crazy when you are trying to revamp your wardrobe. A few key pieces and some great accessories are all you really need! Keep reading...........;)

Ever wonder how some people just look great all the time?? I can tell you that it is because they are smart with accessories.
When revamping your look put most of your concentration on great accessories. What qualifies as a great accessory you ask? I can honestly tell you that it has nothing to do with the price tag. It has everything to do with actually wearing them and how you wear them. Do you believe that most ladies put their accessories last and some even forget to put them on! I'll put it to you simply. YOU MUSTN'T FORGET TO ACCESSORIZE! Otherwise you will be just wearing clothes and anyone can do that. It's your accessories that bring to life your style personality.
Changing up your accessories is a great way to completely revamp your look without breaking the bank. You can wear the same thing twice and no one will know if you accessorize completely differently than you did the first time you wore it.
Hair and make up are just as important as your accessories. Actually, I take that back. Hair and make up are even more important. They are your best accessory

It's also all in how you style it. Notice the pushed up sleeves. Notice the scarf ties. So simple to do. So, do what Nike says and
"just do it!"

THE GREAT WHITE BLOUSE is a must in every lady's wardrobe. Many people will tell you to go basic when it comes to purchasing a a white blouse. I say get one that is special and makes a statement. You will wear it the same way that you would wear a basic one, so why not go a little extreme. If your style tends to be a little more classic then just stay with the traditional style, but don't force yourself to go basic just because you feel you should have it in your wardrobe. If you lean towards being more of a traditional white blouse wearer, you could at least purchase one with French cuffs. That way when you want to revamp your look, you can just change out the cufflinks!

THE BLACK PENCIL SKIRT is another item that I reach for in my wardrobe when all else fails. It looks great with anything and can be accessorized to the max or worn very simple and elegant "a la Michelle Obama." With this item, I would say stay basic. And don't go too short. Figure out what your ideal length is and go with it. It will be your most reliable little friend.

A bat wing sweater or a poncho is a really cool item to have in your wardrobe. You can literally just throw it on with anything and it looks fabulous. It also will look completely different when you wear it with jeans, than when you wear it with a skirt or trousers.

Invest in cool scarves to change up your look. Even wearing the same scarf but in different was can revamp your look.

A great fitting pair of jeans is something that you need to own. I didn't say the most expensive pair. Just a pair that fits you like a glove. (Warning. This could be a challenge. Make sure you are operating with all four cylinders when taking this on.)

Last but certainly not least, have NO shame in shopping second hand!!! I will be the first to tell you that I DIE over designer labels, but I simply just cannot afford them. So what do I do? I look through my fashion magazines (I love big glossy fashion photos!) and I take a few notes. What is is about something a designer created that I love? Is it the color, the details, the fit? Whatever it is, I write it down and then if I happen upon a great resale shop I dig out the notes, have a flashback of the big glossy fashion photo, and I go on a hunt. I don't get disappointed if I don't find it though. My son once tracked snow across the kitchen floor and when I asked him to wipe it up he said "That's the good thing about water. It dries." Although I was a little upset by his comment and made him wipe up the cold wet puddles, I liked this statement. It made me think up one of my famous quotes! And that quote is "If you can't find what you are looking for or if you can't afford it at this time, don't worry! In fashion there will always be something new that you'll want and love just as much."
See the similarities.
They both make sense and they both naturally happen without you even doing anything :-)

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
