Laura's Style's Jump Start on Fall Trends for 2012!

The end of July is coming closer. And then there is August. Some fun in the sun is still left in the month of September. But let's face it. Cold cool weather is coming whether we like it or not. Here is my list of must have trends for fall 2012 just to give you a jump start on your thought process.

1. Granny Chic

By granny chic I don't mean to literally dress like your grandmother. I just mean take a few tips from the wise {older} lady. Lower the hemline on your skirts to below your knee. A longer style fitted pencil skirt can look very sexy. Wear a shawll, but make it something more fitted. Kind of like a sweater tube. Wear ladylike dresses. Button up your blouse collar {all the way} when layering them under sweaters and cardis or wear a pretty ruffled blouse under a cardigan. The idea is to keep the look fitted so you don't look like a bag lady. Also, a wool cape is a super cool granny chic item that you may want to own this fall.

2. Monochromatic White

This trend is so beautiful and pure as the white of snow (bad word). It is also a pretty easy trend to wear. That is, if you can get over yourself and accept the fact that it is okay to wear white after labor day. Just watch your fabrics. I absolutely love this trend.

3. Hunting and Fishing
{Both of these looks are by Rodarte}

The hunting and fishing looks consist of lady like silhouettes in bold plaids (think glen plaid and houndstooth) Fair Isle prints, and tweeds as well as leather, shearling, fisherman knit sweaters, corduroys and sweater dresses.

4. Global Patterns

By global patterns I mean old world elegance. If you adore this trend then you will need to invest in tribal patterns, fur and brocade fabrics. Such a rich and powerful trend! You will feel so in control and pretty!

5. Modern Military

{Left: Victoria Beckham. Right: Marc Jacobs}

For the modern military trend you will want to be on the look out for shoulder epaulets, anything double breasted, belted coats and jackets, and breast pockets. This look may seem strict but you will be surprised at how beautiful you actually feel when you wear it. You may even feel untouchable!

6. Streamlined Black Dressing

{Left Michael Kors. Right: Donna Karen}

Don't ever think that wearing black from head to toe is boring. When worn in different texture combinations, black can be very exciting! You will want to look for leather blouses, skirts, pants and jackets in smooth and textured varieties. Also invest in a great fitted black turtleneck. Black trousers are a must as well as a classic black handbag!

I am not looking forward to colder temps that's for darn sure, but the fact that fashion always gives us something to look forward to always adds a nice touch to the change of seasons. Wouldn't you agree?

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
