My Five Picks For Fall!

Have you begun to think about what you need for fall yet? I am sure that there is not a heck of a lot that you actually NEED. It's more about what trends you are liking as you go through the pages of the September issues of your favorite fashion magazines. Trends are not meant for everyone. I have grown to accept that fact. Just because pink fur coats and wearing a skirt over pants happens to be on trend, doesn't mean it's something I must do or must have. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE seeing the new trends walk down the runways at the change of each season. In fact I LOVE pink fur coats! On other people. It's just not me. And what I wear might not be you. That doesn't mean you don't like it on me! See where I am going with this? This is one of the biggest reasons why I ADORE fashion! Because virtually everything is in style. It's all in how you wear it.

With all that being said, here are my five picks for fall 2012:
Boots are always cool for fall. I wear them with skirts, jeans and leggings from September 1st 'til mid April. This year I will be looking for a pair with a thicker heal vs the tiny kitten heal of my past choice. Love these Alpine Bonnet boots by Clarks.
A black fine gauge turtleneck like this one from Talbots. Such a basic item can have such a huge impact!
pink tuxedo jacket
I always love lady in a tuxedo jacket. Very chic and sexy without being obvious. I own a black tuxedo jacket with a black satin collar by NY & Co. that I purchased last fall at a resale shop called Polish in Bangor, Maine for $8. But I am loving the contrast of this one from H&M from this season. Another must have for me for sure, keeping in mind how awesome it will look with my boyfriend jeans and black suede lace up booties :)

You may think that a pair of brown leggings are boring. But think of how cool they will look with my "new to me" sweater dress that I found at GoodWill (see photo to the right) and the Clarks boots that I posted above! The brown leggings I will be getting are from MaxStudio thanks to a surprise gift card from The Vogue Influencer Network that I belong to.

Double-cloth lady day coat with Thinsulate®
And last, but certainly not least, and probably most importantly, I will be on the hunt for a ladylike winter coat in an amazing color like this one from JCrew. I own a basic brown coat as well as a basic black. This year, my winter must be bright!

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
