Get Stylin'!

When you get dressed for the day, do you wear your clothes? Or do your clothes wear you? What's the difference, you ask? There is a huge difference. If you don't know what I mean, then read on..... I have dressed a lot of women in my day. I absolutely love helping women look and feel great. In most cases you ladies know what you like and you know what you don't like. Naturally you gravitate to the things you like and you go into the dressing room and try them on. That's when it all happens. The clothes just seem to completely take over!! Nothing looks good. Too big, too small, too boxy, sleeves are too long or too short. You get the idea. You get discouraged and you walk out without purchasing a thing. Some stores offer stylists to assist you in finding your perfect look, but in most stores, you are on your own. I'm gonna teach you how to style yourself, all by yourself.   First of all you need to get over yourself. Embrace the lovely body that God gave you and m...

Fashion Models. Who Are They? Volume 1

When I was a young lady I would wake up at 6:00am on Sunday mornings to watch CNN's "STYLE with Elsa Klensch". Am I alone here?? Please speak up if you remember her. I would love to bond with someone as crazy about runway fashion as myself. Elsa spoke to designers and high fashion models abroad. This was back when Vogue used to put models on their covers instead of celebrities. Remember those days? When we used to know the names of all the super models of the moment? I sure do. Well, since times have changed and Anna Wintour isn't going to do it, (she's the one who had the brilliant idea of putting celebrities on the covers of fashion magazines) I thought I would make this be a regular article on Laura's Style. Fashion Models. Who Are They? I will be getting their names out there so that you become familiar with them again. This week the number one model of all time is....(We used to call them super models)......Joan Smalls. Here she is. Remember that name. ...

Dare to be Dressed!

It seems as though that from the beginning of time the only acceptable form of attire for a woman was a dress. It wasn't until the 1930's that women started to see pants as a fashion statement. Actresses like Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich made pants acceptable for the modern woman. That was 83 years ago! And to this day we are still wearing them with pride!  However, now for whatever reason, when a woman wears a dress she gets a double take. Why is she all dressed up, we wonder?  To me a dress is so simple. It seems to look great every time I put one on. It surprises me that more modern day women don't wear them. Our lives are busy. Get the kids up, get them to school, take that conference call, check your e mail, get into the shower, beauty up, get dressed and get to the office. How easy would it be to just through on a dress? I swear it would cut at least fifteen minutes to a half an hour of outfit planning and prepping. And dresses look amazing!...

Today is "What Did You Buy?" Friday!

Here is what I bought today! (Friday) TALBOTS Water-Flower Cardi  This cardigan is just so pretty and spring-y and most importantly I can wear it now! I am so tempted by all the cute skirts and dresses out there, but I know that mother nature is just not being very cooperative lately.  The necklace is also from TALBOTS from a few seasons ago. I think it will be perfect with this colorful cardi. I also just painted my fingernails with this color from my Essie archives. I will also be painting my toenails. I may just dare to wear open toed shoes tomorrow! Of course my Uggs will be on my feet for my commute.

My Beauty Picks for Spring 2013

Fashionista's know that spring shopping doesn't only include new fashion trends, it's also a time where we tend to update our hair, make-up and yes, fragrances! Here are a few of my new spring beauty must haves. What are some of yours? {My new must have fragrance for 2013 is  Elizabeth Arden's Pretty Hot . The notes are red fruit, floral, amber and wood. And if you are shopping at Macy's in Bangor Maine please ask for June at the Elizabeth Arden counter. She gave me the most amazing customer service and deserves a standing ovation. She was helpful, but in a very gentle way because she listened to everything I had to say and was willing to find the right product until I said  "YES, this is it!"}  { Elizabeth Arden's beautiful color luminous lip gloss in passionfruit } { Elizabeth Arden's Beautiful Color Radiance Blush in Romantic Rose } {And the next time I go to Charlene, my sweet and talented hair stylist, I will be getting ju...

Nothing Says Spring Like a Pretty New Scarf!

You want spring to be here NOW! I KNOW! I am totally with you. When you are a lover of fashion such as myself, you get so excited to move on to the next season way before it actually begins! Lately I seem to be a bit more laid back and accepting of the moment that I am in. I guess that means I am getting older and wiser. While I realize that I do not have the power to make the next season arrive any quicker, I do know what I can do in order to make myself feel like I am moving forward. I can throw on a spring scarf and say, "There you go mother nature! You may be gray, but I am in full bloom! Oh, and I am warm too.....;)"  Nothing says spring like a pretty new scarf!  {Paisley shimmer scarf above from Mexicali Blues } {Floral scarf from TALBOTS }

What Does Fashion Mean to You?

That question can be confusing to some. There are lots of people out there who think that just because you are obsessed with fashion that you are self centered. Now, while this may be true for some, a real fashionista knows that fashion goes much further than her own personal vanity. It is about expressing ones self without words.  Fashion can be: Plain  Pretty Dark  Demure Angelic Architectural Retro Racy Sassy Sexy Wild Wacky How many more words can you come up with to describe fashion?  Leave a comment!  I always used to have a hard time with describing my personal style, but now I think I've got it. I am definitely classic with just a bit of  an edge.  How would you describe your style? Leave a comment! Below you will find a few of my favorite inspirational fashion photos of all time: and the list goes on......and on......... What inspires you? Leave a comm...
