Get Stylin'!

When you get dressed for the day, do you wear your clothes? Or do your clothes wear you? What's the difference, you ask? There is a huge difference. If you don't know what I mean, then read on.....

I have dressed a lot of women in my day. I absolutely love helping women look and feel great. In most cases you ladies know what you like and you know what you don't like. Naturally you gravitate to the things you like and you go into the dressing room and try them on. That's when it all happens. The clothes just seem to completely take over!! Nothing looks good. Too big, too small, too boxy, sleeves are too long or too short. You get the idea. You get discouraged and you walk out without purchasing a thing.

Some stores offer stylists to assist you in finding your perfect look, but in most stores, you are on your own. I'm gonna teach you how to style yourself, all by yourself.  

First of all you need to get over yourself. Embrace the lovely body that God gave you and move on! You are beautiful.


Second, make sure you are taking two sizes into the dressing room. Embrace the one that is just a tad snug (I said a TAD snug) Most everything has stretch in it these days and if you purchase something too big to begin with, you can count on it getting even bigger over time because it will stretch.

Let's start with trying on a tailored blouse vs that knit top. A blouse looks so much more stylish than a knit. Now that you have your blouse that fits, roll up your sleeves. Just a roll or two will do. Then pop the collar slightly. Now your wearing that blouse! It's not wearing you :)

Okay, lets talk straight leg jeans. (I said straight, not skinny) Straight leg jeans look great worn as is, however if you want to style it up a notch or two try rolling the legs up one or two rolls. Again, this is called styling yourself. Wear the clothes, don't let them wear you.


Now lets talk about that skirt that your trying on. Remember, bring in two sizes. The one that sits at your natural waist is the one that fits. Don't pick the one that drops below your waistline. That one will make you look frumpy. The skirt that sits at your waist may feel a little funny at first since you are used to all those low rise styles, but trust me on this. Also, a skirt that falls just ever so slightly above your knee will be your most flattering look. 


Now as you may already know, everything looks better with a heel, however do not get discouraged if you cannot wear a heel. Luckily ballet flats have been all the rage,  probably due to all of us having to hurry everywhere we go, and lets face it, heels hurt! Especially when you are running around all day. Ballet flats are so cute, so even if you can wear a heel, pack a ballet flat in that gorgeous bag of yours to change into when your feet are screaming at you.




Oh and don't forget, you wear a bag too!! Your handbag can make or break your look, so make sure it's great. You can even tie a scarf on your bag to style it up a bit. A great look, yet so simple to do!


Styling yourself not only means tweaking your clothing, it also can mean putting on a little make up, styling your hair, painting your fingernails and toenails, putting on a bold necklace, ring, and/or earrings. But you must remember that the most important part of staying stylish doesn't include clothing, accessories, popping up your collar or cuffing up your sleeves. It is all in your attitude. Ever meet a really "stylish" girl who was not so nice? I don't know about you, but they quickly turn from someone I admired into someone I can barely stand the sight of. So what I am trying to say is, that being nice is key to stylin'. If you practice the tips I gave above, along with being a good person in your heart and soul, then you will continue to style on.

FALL for Flowers!

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go!
