Pop It Up & Scrunch It Up!

You wear clothes every day. But do you style your clothes? Popping up your collar is an easy thing to do and when you do, you create a simply chic look! I think a collar popped up looks especially great on someone with short hair. That's why when I wear a blouse or a jacket I tend to wear my hair up in a pony tail or chignon.  Sleeve scrunching may or may not drive you nuts. I just love the way it looks so I suffer it out. And after about 15 minutes, I'm good! Since it's winter time I want as much coverage on my body as I can, so I don't scrunch my sleeves until I arrive at work and take off my coat. Shop the look!

Contrast Controversy

It's okay to add a bit of controversy to your life when it comes to fashion. What I like the best about creating controversy with what I wear is that it doesn't hurt anyone else. It doesn't make them do anything they don't want to do. It just creates interest, maybe some questions. And if someone might be brave enough, they ask you about what you are wearing. But they don't have to wear it. I like creating controversy with a bit of contrast. In this particular look I chose to wear a pair of bright tights with a neutral skirt. A little more interesting than sticking with brown tights, but not over the top. How do you create controversy with fashion? Shop The Look!

Laura's Laid Back Style

  J. Crew  embroidered emblem baseball cap   If you see someone running around town with this baseball hat pulled down over her face, it's probably me, wearing minimal make up and getting some errands done on my precious day off. Even though I call myself a stylist, I too have days that I don't really feel like putting the effort into being quite so stylish. That's why I tend to choose accessories like this monogrammed J.Crew baseball hat . I feel like it helps take my look from slacker girl to cool girl out on the town.  Shop this look!

Why Do You Keep Your Clothes?

Let's face it. There are certain pieces in your wardrobe that are just so difficult to get rid of. You know they are dated. You know that you are no longer a juniors size 3. You know that you have not worn it in 20 years, but you still grasp it like it's still the year 1994 or in some cases like it's still 1984 or even 1974. Ladies, get over it. I know that sounds a little bit harsh, but seriously, what is the problem?  (Please leave me a comment. I'd love to help ;) The first thing you must do in order to solve this problem is look in the mirror. It doesn't matter if you look in the mirror with make up on or not. It doesn't matter what you are wearing when you study your reflection in the mirror either. All that matters is that you just breathe and gaze into your own eyes. Reflect on the past. Your past will probably consist of many good times and bad times alike. Regardless of what you have been through in your life, you must learn to own it and live in...

What Are Your Wardrobe Workhorses?

There are some garments that work really hard in your wardrobe. I call them the wardrobe workhorses. You pull them out of your closet almost daily and you cry when they rip or tear and you immediately need to go out and get a replacement because the world as we know it just might end without those items that you reach for day-to-day. I think that everyone has different wardrobe workhorses based on their style and their life. Below I have listed mine.  1. A great fitting pair of jeans {photo via Pinterest } 2. A denim jacket that fits and flatters {photo via Madwell } 3. A pair of black trousers that flow straight down from the hips to the top of my shoe {photo via this is glamorous } 4. A pair of black kitten heels that you can wear with anything and everything 5. Navy blazer with gold buttons {photo via oilnanoolamoda } 6. A trench coat that goes with absolutely everything {photo via wit + delight } 7. A pair of leggings ...

Happy Heart Day!

Some folks live for Valentine's Day. They submerge themselves in all the mushy gooshy-ness of the holiday. They spend their money on bouquets of flowers and chocolate covered strawberries and have them delivered to their lovers. Me? I simply enjoy dressing for the day of love. How about you? Radiant Orchid ~ Pantone's Color Of The Year

It may still be winter for a few more weeks, but I am still determined to think spring. It was 1 degree Fahrenheit this morning in Maine, so a turtleneck was definitely in the front of my mind when getting dressed. I decided to wear my favorite color block turtleneck from Talbots in shades of purple. In case you didn't know, Radiant Orchid is said to be Pantone's color of the year for 2014. I was so happy to see purples in the picture again that I changed the appearance of my blog to a Radiant Orchid theme! There was a long period of time that we didn't see any purple in the world of fashion. Or at least in the world of retail. It's so nice to see it back. What colors are you wishing would come back "in"?

Do You Wear Your Heart On Your Sleeve?.........Literally?

When I first saw this intarsia heart print sweater in one of my favorite stores in the whole world, my first thought was: cute? Yes, cute with a question mark. I am all for anything that is different and I have always been kind of whimsical when it comes to dressing and even when decorating my home during the holidays. But was this sweater just too.............. Okay, I'll say it. YOUNG? No, I don't think I'm old. I don't even know how to describe it. It's just that I felt funny when I tried this sweater on. Like I was trying to be something I'm not, or someone that I was and I was trying desperately to hold on to. I am not sure that it entirely has to do with age. It may have more to do with a style shift for me. Lately I feel comfortable in more sophisticated styles. Do I love this sweater on Selma Blair in the photo below? Yes. I think she looks adorable. Do I want to look adorable? Not really. I want to look sopisticated and modern. I think I'...
