Clothing Swap To Benefit Nourish Salon!

My great friend and personal hair stylist Charlene Boggins opened her own salon in my hometown Veazie, Maine about two years ago. She is not only a certified Vidal Sassoon hair stylist, but she also specializes in treating women going through medical hair loss due to chemotherapy or other medical conditions. She helps women through the whole process of hair loss which can be very traumatic for most. Charlene also supplies beautiful scarves and gorgeous wigs which she trims and styles to each clients specification.

Charlene wants to also be able to help women who may not be able to afford a wig or her services. That is why she has introduced
The Nourish Salon & Spa Angel Fund.

Charlene and I came up with the idea to hold a Clothing Swap twice a year to benefit her Angel Fund. We are very excited about this event and we plan on making it a huge success!
Below, you will find your official invite.

You are invited to a Clothing Swap!

The cost is $15 per person and all proceeds go to The Nourish Salon and Spa Angel Fund which helps to provide services and luxury wigs for cancer patients as well as patients experiencing medical hair loss.

P.S. I had so much fun helping Charlene style and merchandise her salon for this :)

And below you will find the letter that we sent out to clarify some of the details of the Clothing Swap:

Hello ladies!
We just wanted to send you all a little note to explain some of the small details about the clothing swap that is taking place on Tuesday October 14, 2014 at 6:00 pm at Machias Savings Bank in Brewer. The admission is $15 and all of the proceeds go to The Nourish Salon and Spa Angel Fund which helps to provide services and luxury wigs for cancer patients as well as patients experiencing medical hair loss.
You will want to arrive promptly at 6:00 pm the evening of the event. Bring a reasonable amount of clothing and/or accessories that are in fabulous condition that you no longer want in your wardrobe. All size ranges are welcome! We have decided to NOT put a limit on how many items you can bring to the swap. Just make sure it’s not a truckload or anything. One or two big garbage bags or boxes is plenty. Please make sure you arrive promptly at 6:00 pm with your items so that we have time to set everything out before we officially begin the swap at 7:00 pm. We will not be putting a limit on how many items you can take home. Anything that is left at the end of the evening will be donated to a local charity unless you would like to take it back home with you.
We hope this clarifies everything! Please let us know if you have any more questions. This will be so much fun and it will be so great to meet and mingle with each other!
See you on October 14th!
Fashionably Yours,
Laura Michaud & Charlene Boggins

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
