No White After Labor Day? Nonsense.

SHOP THE LOOK

I happened to think this about this topic last weekend when I pulled out my white jeans for some would say, the last time until the day after Memorial Day. I don't know why it irritates me so much when people go by this rule. I think a part of me is very upset to say that summer is over, so wearing white after Labor Day is the rebel in me coming out I suppose.

At Laura's Style we believe that it is just fine to wear white after Labor Day. That is, if you want to. If you are uncomfortable doing it because you think people will judge you, then please get over it! You should know that as long as you wear white in heavier fabrics such as denim, wool and corduroy, it is totally acceptable. We don't want you to wear light weight whites such as cotton and linen because you will freeze your butt off in the cooler months ahead. But if you live in a lovely HOT tropical place, then don't hesitate to wear any white piece you've got no matter what the fabric is. Throw that white rule right out the door and notice how free you will feel as you proudly wear white this winter.

If you don't believe me when I tell you that it is okay to wear white after labor day, then why don't you ask Mr. Ralph Lauren himself. I think he would agree with me.

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
