Sometimes all you need is a little cardi to cover your arms....

{All of my accessories are vintage and can be found at The Canny Canary } If there is one complaint I hear the most from women about their body it is that they hate showing their arms. Either they are not toned, or have too may sunspots from over the years or they just are plain cold most of the time. If you have those feelings, just know that you are not alone. That is why I love this pointelle cardi from TALBOTS . It is nice and sheer so it isn't too warm and it gives just the right amount of arm coverage. The one I am wearing here is no longer available in black at TALBOTS.com but it comes in many colors that are on sale at the moment! Click HERE or click the photo above and below and that will bring you right to TALBOTS.com so that you can purchase one for yourself! Trust me. You will be glad you did ;)

Your fashion thought of the day..........

Fashion can be considered a very vain subject. I think when we are young we gravitate to fashion to figure out who we are. We try all sorts of different things to try to fit in and/or find ourselves. When we are young it seems we use fashion to attract the opposite sex. It sometimes becomes sickening how obvious we are in doing this. We get a piercing and/or a tattoo. We wear short shorts, mini skits and things that cling. And we are proud of it! But at some point in our life, we grow, and we get to know ourselves. We learn that the length of our mini skirt has absolutely nothing to do with who we really are and we begin to express to the world who we truly are through our voice and what we believe in. We still dress to impress but not purely so. Dressing becomes a way for us to express the woman we have proudly become. Our true style begins to evolve as our life progresses and develops. We think we've got everything figured out at age 17, but at age 40 we begin to realize w...

Why A White Jacket Always Works

Why does a white jacket work so well? Here are my five reasons: 1. It can make any outfit look fresh and new. 2. It looks great worn with sleeveless dresses in spring and summer. 3. It matches with any color. 4. Black and WHITE never goes out of style. It's such a classic look that works in a pinch when colors can be confusing. Wear all black if you want then throw on the white jacket and BAM, it's summer! 5. Wear a white jacket with your favorite tee and blue jeans for class and comfort all at once.   SHOP my favorite white jackets:

Which type of hose should you wear?

Yay! It's finally spring in Maine! We haven't had any signs of snow in almost almost two months now. The grass is getting greener and foliage is starting to fill up the trees! We all get the urge to start letting go of layers at this time of year and we want to begin wearing our pretty floral dresses and skirts. This is called Spring Fever! However, it can still be a bit nippy for baring the old winter white legs here in New England. I have heard a ton of ladies talk about hose being totally out of style. But I think we need to discuss this further...... You may see Kathy Lee & Hoda  wearing next to nothing on the Today show each morning. Their skin is tan, flawless and glowing and guess what, NO HOSE. They look fabulous I must admit. But we need to remember, they are made for TV. You, are not.  Popular to contrary belief, it is perfectly appropriate to wear nude hose with your skirts and dresses in spring. Here are my tips for getting the right hose so tha...

What to wear with a straight skirt.

I have one word. Peplum. A peplum top will create a more balanced look if you are choose to wear a straight style skirt. They also are famous for hiding a multitude of sins and look fabulous on every body type. SHOP my favorite Peplum tops! JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. And of course I decided to finish off this look with a beautiful vintage necklace by Sarah Coventry which can be found HERE at The Canny Canary online vintage boutique . {Peplum top: ASOS , skirt: Talbots , bracelet: Stella & Dot , earrings: Talbots , shoes: Target }

Is it possible to wake up looking pretty?

This is mostly a matter of opinion. I guess it depends on what YOUR definition of pretty is. Some of us see the beauty in everything, except ourselves.  {Photo via Beauty High . For more tips on waking up prettier, click HERE .} I don't know about you but the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is look in the mirror. I guess I need to make sure that I am really here. Then I splash cold water on my face to make me realize that, yes, I really am here . I look in the mirror again to see if I have any new blemishes or if any existing blemish has miraculously healed over night. It's so interesting what the night can do to your skin. It usually depends on what we ate or drank the night before. And as we age, our skin becomes even more sensitive to what we eat and drink every day. Does that stop me from drinking a glass of wine almost every night? Not yet. But I am totally working on that. Anyone else with me? So, the question remains. Is it possible to wake...

Lottie Dottie

As time goes on I become more sensible, so comfort is KEY. And I have to say that these Weekender "Lottie Dot" Chinos from TALBOTS are one of the most comfortable things I own. I could really dress these down with a tee shirt and flip flops for my day off, but I love them so much that I decided to dress them up a bit and wear them to work. They are perfect for someone who works in a casual office setting. But you will want to be sure to throw on a blazer with these since they can actually look too casual if you are not careful, hence their name, "Weekender Chino" and we know that the word "weekend" implies total comfort and ease, which is not acceptable in a office setting. And you shouldn't think that your boss is a jerk because he/she made those dress codes for the office. Those rules actually help you look like you know what you are doing, even when you actually don't! Ha ha ;) Isn't it cool what a blazer can do? Just throw one on...

Splurge Worthy.....

I recently asked a question on my Facebook page about how much you might pay for something when you consider it to be a "splurge." The following were the comments I received:  " Depends on the item but I'd say $500 plus..." "No set amount of money; it has to do with extravagance. Paying $3 for Starbucks vs $1 McDonalds cup of coffee." "I spent $160 at Ulta today, that was a splurge.." "It's all relative. Any time I pay full price for a piece of clothing, I consider it a splurge! I looked at a dress at Christopher and Banks tonight that was $74.99, and the only reason I decided to try it on was because I was going to be able to use a 40% coupon." "$1,000 or more." "About $500." "Anything over $39.99! I am too frugal!  # lovegoodwill " "It's more a question of need versus want. Like designer sunglasses for example." As you can see, the comments wer...
