Which type of hose should you wear?

Yay! It's finally spring in Maine! We haven't had any signs of snow in almost almost two months now. The grass is getting greener and foliage is starting to fill up the trees! We all get the urge to start letting go of layers at this time of year and we want to begin wearing our pretty floral dresses and skirts. This is called Spring Fever! However, it can still be a bit nippy for baring the old winter white legs here in New England. I have heard a ton of ladies talk about hose being totally out of style. But I think we need to discuss this further......

You may see Kathy Lee & Hoda wearing next to nothing on the Today show each morning. Their skin is tan, flawless and glowing and guess what, NO HOSE. They look fabulous I must admit. But we need to remember, they are made for TV. You, are not.

Popular to contrary belief, it is perfectly appropriate to wear nude hose with your skirts and dresses in spring. Here are my tips for getting the right hose so that you can start wearing those pretty skirts and dresses NOW:

1. Make sure the hose that you choose is as close to your skin color as possible. When in doubt, go lighter. It is more believable that they are your real legs when the hose is lighter instead of darker.

2. Go with a nude hose that is textured. A subtle texture will even work with patterned skirts and will make it obvious that you are wearing hose. Why would you want to make it obvious that you are wearing hose? Well, some days it's just easier to admit that you are wearing hose and just rock it!

3. Never wear an open toed shoe with hose. A little peep toe is fine, but a wide open toe or sandal is unappealing. Sorry, but it's true. Keep your sandals for hot summer days when wearing panty hose would be way too hot.

4. If you haven't already, make sure you purchase a pair of nude pumps for spring and summer. I promise they will go with every single one of your dresses or skirts. And choose a closed toe version for versatility. You will find that a nice nude pump will make your legs look longer and we all love that idea. Here are some of my favorite nude pumps pictured below:

Fashion Is For Models. STYLE Is For Real Women.

The fashion world has always favored skinny models to show off the latest trends. But it's the real women who actually buy them. Why does this make sense? Well I guess when it comes right down to the brutal truth, people buy things that look good. And lets face it, clothes look better when they are smaller. It's kind of like when I go into a store to try on shoes and the one on display that I am attracted to is a size 6 or 7 and then the sales clerk brings out my size (9 or 9/2) and I'm like "That's not the same shoe, is it? The one on display looks different!" The clerk tells me that it is in fact the same shoe. Suddenly, I don't want to try it on anymore. So, I just want to tell all you ladies out there who are not a size 4 in a dress that I get it. But we can't let it bother us.  Fashion is everywhere and marketing is everywhere and the majority of it is big beautiful pictures of skinny people. Keep in mind, models in magazines have the b...

FALL for Flowers!

{Leifsdottir Alegrias tiered floral skirt} Totally unpredictable and completely cool. Flowers for fall are exactly what you need to take your "I miss summertime" blues away. There are no rules in fashion. It's just about achieving a look that is your best and that you feel good in. Who says plaid is the only print you can wear in the fall? Now, don't get me wrong. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns. So maybe we can mix them together! {See below} Flower patterns are fun and so glamorous during any season. Just make your floral skirts a little more fall like by wearing a pair of colorful tights! Can you say FLOWER POWER?! And we are going to need some major FLOWER POWER especially when the temperature begins to drastically drop. {Christopher Kane ~ garden leather mini skirt} {Carolina Herrera}

The Necessary Black T-Shirt

I have to admit, I have not been getting dressed up much these days. I think it has something to do with just wanted to be comfortable. I have been sewing a ton of masks at The Maine Square   and it just feels better to not be confined in my clothing as I am cutting fabric and sewing. However, I do have to go out of the studio occasionally. Mostly it's to the mailbox, but sometimes it's to get more supplies and of course food. I don't mean to sound pretentious or anything, but I do think about how I look even when going out to do these quick errands. It makes me feel good to look half decent! Lately I have been opting for a simple black tee shirt and a pair of semi faded jeans. All I need to do it pop on a camel colored blazer and some ballet flats and I am good to go! Oh yeah, and I ALWAYS wear a mask when entering a public facility these days. I think it's just common courtesy with all that is going on with the corona virus.  Here are some of my all-time favori...
