My Five Picks For Fall!

Have you begun to think about what you need for fall yet? I am sure that there is not a heck of a lot that you actually NEED. It's more about what trends you are liking as you go through the pages of the September issues of your favorite fashion magazines. Trends are not meant for everyone. I have grown to accept that fact. Just because pink fur coats and wearing a skirt over pants happens to be on trend, doesn't mean it's something I must do or must have. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE seeing the new trends walk down the runways at the change of each season. In fact I LOVE pink fur coats! On other people . It's just not me. And what I wear might not be you . That doesn't mean you don't like it on me ! See where I am going with this? This is one of the biggest reasons why I ADORE fashion! Because virtually everything is in style. It's all in how you wear it . With all that being said, here are my five picks for fall 2012: Boots are always cool ...

My Summer Closet Close Out

In the real world we are in denial that our flip flops must soon be put away for the next 8 months. In the fashion world we are super excited to be digging out our cool suede boots! (Maybe a little too excited.) So which world do you live in? I have to say that I live in both from time to time. I when I am taking a day off from work I live in yoga pants and a tee shirt. My hair is in a pony and I usually wear a pink baseball cap if I have to run out to the store to disguise my make-up-less face. Sometimes I wear flip flops and sometimes sneakers. When I work I style it up about twenty notches! I am so happy that I have a job in fashion, because I do love it so. I love wearing the latest styles each season and being a vogue know it all. Which is why I have decided to de-summer-ize my closet. (That means I am going to take all the obvious summer stuff out and put it into storage for the winter.) This will make getting dressed less confusing because I will have less clutter in front ...

Simplify Your Life With Dresses!

Lately I have been wanting to make my life a little easier. I am not only thinking about chopping my hair........ but I am also thinking about how I can simplify at least some of my mornings by throwing on a dress. The only problem with dresses is that they can get kind of boring. I mean, a dress is a dress, right? There are only so many ways you can wear a dress. Well, isn't that the point?!! YES!  It is true that you can wear certain dress styles different ways but, you don't want to look like you are trying too hard. If you plan on experimenting with different ways to wear a dress, then one like this gold button ponte knit dress from Talbots in the photo below would be the style that you would want. Here is what you could do with this dress: 1.) Wear a blouse, turtleneck or tee underneath so it looks like a jumper 2.) Wear it with leggings 3.) Wear it as is  4.) Wear a cute cropped denim jacket over it 5) wear a fitted black leather jacket over it ...

From one "Local Girl" to Another...:)

If you are a local girl, (meaning that you are lucky enough to live in the magnificent state of Maine) then you may have already heard of  Local Girl Leather . If you are not a local girl and/or have never heard of Local Girl Leather , then I invite you to meet Emma Thieme and her outrageously edgy earring designs! I first read about Emma in the Bangor Daily News. It was this article ( READ ME ) that drew me in and made me curious about what Emma was creating. After reading this piece I immediately searched her out on Facebook and "liked" her page . Take a look at these fantastic earrings that Emma created just for me! See photos below:  Jealous?? She can custom make a design just for you too!   These earrings are just the perfect bold accessory that I needed to go with my "minimalist" look today. They are made out of ultra soft leather (hence the name, Local Girl Leather) so they are so incredibly light! I didn't event ...

Laura's Latest Beauty Review

These are my three latest beauty product purchases: Lorac Natural performance foundation in a color called np 3, Lorac Baked perfecting powder in color pf2 and Derma e Anti Aging Pycnogenol moisturizing cream which is all natural for sensitive skin. Here are my reviews:   Lorac Natural Performance Foundation in shade NP3 allows for great coverage. The fact that it is oil, paraben and fragrance free is what attracted me, however I ended up returning it because it was just a little too heavy for my skin plus the shade didn't quite match my pale skin.  It's not easy being a pale girl in a tan world!  Also, it has no SPF which I know is not good because I am supposed to protect my skin from the sun's harmful rays, but SPF breaks me out into a rash! So, I wear a wide brim hat whenever I am outside to shade my face. This foundation rocks for anyone who wants full coverage. It goes on smooth and doesn't make me itch. Go to your local Sephora and get a sample t...

Minimalist Style. Is It For Me?

Lately I have been feeling different. Different how, you ask? Well I have been feeling a little more mature these days. I didn't say old. I said mature. By mature, I mean I feel more complete, cultured, developed. However I don't feel I have reached the fully seasoned stage of my life, but I do feel it coming on. Does that make sense? Maybe in ten more years I will feel the sense of total comfort that comes with being mature, but I can wait for that.  With this feeling I am beginning to want to change up my look a little bit. Sometimes I feel like I dress like a little girl and I think I would like to change that. I have always admired the clean looks by Calvin Klein.  Very minimalist.  Very chic. Very sexy. As I age I feel like life gets better, but busier in a different way. Busier because I want it that way. Busier with different things than before. Better because your outlook on life changes as you meet people and gain experien...

My Maine Dock Designs Summer Must!!

You should know by know that I am a born and bred true Mainer. Often times I get frustrated because Maine is such a casual state and I LOVE FASHION! I completely enjoy wearing cool and current styles in a way that is innovative and unexpected. That's why when a local gets on board the fashion train and designs something super dandy that even Mainers can integrate into their casual lifestyle, I get so excited! I'd like to introduce you to  Maine Dock Designs ! Maine Dock Designs is a family run business right here in the state of Maine. They use real lobster bands supplied by lobster fishermen for the colorful center and Maine marine suppliers to source the ropes and hooks. Their family is inspired by "docks and rocks" on the Maine coast referred to as their "happy place". They want you to go to your happy place too, and now you can by wearing a Maine Dock Design ! My photos below will show you how I wore my "pink & blue" Maine D...
